My 16th pick for the Invitational is Simon Turner from Bath WNM.
Simon's been along to 2 of the qualifiers, didn't quite get enough
points to get in, and has done lots throughout the year so far to
bring other friends of his to my tournaments, spreading the word of
Bath Magic.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU EMAIL ME TO CONFIRM YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF
YOUR INVITATION! Private e-mail to paul@pollyandpaul.co.uk will do
fine, please don't spam this list :)
Anyone who has not confirmed by June 10th (i.e. 1 week's time) may
lose their place as I will begin to send invites to those further down
the list
The Invitational itself will be a 6 round event with a cut to Top 2
for the grand final. The rounds will span a variety of formats,
focussed on Standard Constructed, the format you all played to
qualify. And remember, the ultimate winner of the Invitational will
receive a box of each set in Zendikar block on its release.
Entry is obviously free for those invited, the prize is large but the
point is fun. Spectators are more than welcome, drafts will be
available for anyone who shows up.
Round 1) Standard, two headed giant, random teams
Round 2) Standard, 1-on-1* vs your teammate from round 1, using the
round 1 deck, (i.e. the two heads fight each other!)
--- lunch break, followed by auctioning of the precons **
Round 3) Pauper Standard Vanguard Magic***
Round 4) Pauper Standard Vanguard Magic***
Round 5) Auction of the Precon
Round 6) Auction of the Precon
Round 7) The ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny!
Bonus task:
Create a 3 Card-Blind Deck!**** (decks to be submitted at the start of
the tournament for evaluation by judging staff, results at the end)
*The idea is that you play a deck which can succeed in both round 1
and 2, although it is anticipated that many players will simply play a
decent standard deck
**16 Preconstructed theme decks will be made available. Players will
bid to play with the deck of their choice by choosing suitable
combinations of starting life and hand size. The available decks will
be revealed to invitees prior to the event.
***Vanguard Avatars are to be chosen from any of currently available
official Magic Online Vanguard Avatars (found here:
http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/article.aspx?x=magic/magiconline/vanguard)
with the exception of Momir Vig, Stonehewer Giant, Jhoira of the
Ghitu, Higuire the Still Wind. Starting hand size & life totals will
be altered accordingly. Decks should contain standard legal, common
cards only (lowest printed rarity IN STANDARD counts). The vanguard
avatar does not count towards the minimum 60-card deck size.
****Rules for the 3 card blind event are still being finalised, but
the basic idea is this - you submit a decklist containing exactly 3
cards (you do not need the actual cards). During the tournament, each
3 card deck is played against each other 3 card deck, and the winner
recorded. The best performing deck wins a special bonus prize!
