Bath Champsvitational - brought to you by Nomadic Fun!
We have some exciting plans lined up for this year regarding
Constructed Magic. As you may or may not know this year, the Champs
programme has been cancelled. This was an event that could be held in
each city, and was one of the best Standard events around as it
happened so soon after the rotation that the metagame was something of
an unknown. As you also may be aware, the Invitational isn't being
run this year, which is an all-star tournament for 16 of the best
players in Magic to get together, play some wacky formats, and win
their chance to feature on a Magic card of their own design!

So, where Wizards are cancelling events, we'll step in to bring the
buzz back into Magic!

First up, Champsvitational Qualifiers! We will run a total of 5
qualifiers, which will each be Standard Constructed. The qualifiers
will all have a £10 entry fee (that's £8 for the tournament, and £2
hall entry, as usual) and will be run as swiss events with a single-
elimination Top 8. The winner of each qualifier will win a box of the
latest Magic expansion guaranteed! However, the rest of the prize
pool won't suffer, there will still be prizes handed out to the top
40% of all entrants.

Win a Qualifier, and you get a slot in the Invitational. If you don't
manage to win a slot however, there are still 11 slots to be had.
After the 5th qualifier, we will look back at each player's
performance across their best 4 attempts to qualify, and the top 10
performers will each earn a slot. That allows 1 discretionary slot to
be decided on by the tournament organisers, and this slot will be
based on sportsmanship, attitude to other (especially newer) players,
and a general sense of being a fun player to have around.

What will the Champsvitationalists be doing? This is still up for
discussion, but ideas at the moment include such funky formats as
Rainbow Stairwell, Auction of the People, and probably a little bit of
regular Standard too. Of course, the Invitational itself will be free
entry for those qualified, but what will the ultimate prize be? How
does 1 box of each set in the following block sound? As soon as each
block is released, there'll be a box reserved for the Invitational
winner.

Sounds exciting? Then get your Shards-enabled Standard decks together
and see what you can come up with! CQ1 is just 3 weeks away, on
October 26th. CQ2 will be on November 23rd. CQ3 and 4 will be near
the end of February and end of March, dates to be confirmed, after the
release of Conflux, with CQ5 and the Champsvitational itself happening
after Shards block Set 3.

Sounds awesome.

Are they going to be at Peasedown or somewhere else?
