Shards of Alara Prereleases - COUNTERBALANCE TOURNAMENTS - 27th/28th
September
Dear Players,
As most of you are aware, there has been a substantial change in the
way Wizards of the Coast are managing events and Tournament
Organisers. This left Fizz and I with a few choices. We seriously
considered stopping running events altogether, but we both enjoy
running so much that we feel we would lose a big part of our lives by
stopping.
However, this leaves us in some difficulty. We're currently Advanced
Level in the new WPN program and in order to keep this level, we'd
need to continue to hold very large events. Wizards are forcing us to
be competitive, or else we will lose everything we've built in
Bradford.
Now, as most of you are aware, we're not involved in Magic for the
money. In the past, we've made massive loses on events simply because
we wanted to run them. We're happy to continue to take these risks,
because we enjoy Magic and the countless friendships we've formed
through it over the years.
In light of this, we're going to do the following for Shards:
1. The entrance fee for the Bradford Shards of Alara Prereleases will
be at most £10.
2. We need to attract "new" players, so we'll be rewarding those that
bring new people along to assigned a new DCI number.
3. We will attempt to give the best prizes we can... I'd love to say
that we're going to give a booster box to 1st each day, just like the
good ol' days... we'll see :)
Thank you for your support over the years, we hope to see you all at
our Prereleases (Event details below) and Release parties.
Best Wishes

Is running events at a loss, the best way forward for the Magic
community?
Surely adjusting your pricing structure would be a better "risk",
rather than undercutting other TO's, and causing dissent amongst the
plays that pay more?
Just my two pence worth
