area51online.co.uk has a little more information

10th: PTQ Berlin at Lincombe Barn, Downend Folk House, Downend 10am
£10 Block Constructed
To pre-book email with PTQ Prebook in subject line

Not sure what e-mail address he's using though! Probably best to
phone the shop to pre-register (Note, the PTQ itself isn't at the
shop, it's at a rather nice village hall type venue)

£10 entry fee for constructed!!! The non flight prizes better be worth
it. I can understand it for London GPTs where they have to buy the
flights.

That's Wizard's standard (no pun intended) Constructed tournament rate
now. The Reading PTQ this weekend just gone was also £10 entry, held
in the TO's shop.

And the prizes there were shocking too...
Very not impressed.
1st place after swiss took home 9! boosters
In total not more than 2 boxes were given out to a 40 person field
Not only that, but they were all Lorwyn block boosters...

I think Merfolk won.

£10 has pretty much put me off going to any more constructed events :/

As paul said earlier £10 is the normal price for this type of event
now. I'm surprised people didn't get better prize support in reading
though as there they didn't have to hire a hall.

Think I remember listening to a MTG podcast talking about TO's having
to pay to run big events like this and being put off by the fact that
all the pre-releases were going to shops as they normally made most of
there money from pre-releases and not big tournaments like PTQ's. If
this is the case in the states where they get well over 100 people,
its got to be pretty tight over here running an event for 40.

I imagine that this events may now have to be more self funding so if
you were to charge £5 a head and 40 people turn up that would cover
the hall cost at say £100, flight cost at say £100 and boy you've
spent a whole day working for nothing. Not much of an incentive to
bother is there ;).

looks like the credit crunch is hiting everything.

Looking at the schedule for MFest, the PTQ for Berlin is also £10.

Wizards pay for the flights as far as i'm aware. I understand where
you're coming from, but doubling price will surely put people off of
entering given the travel costs aswell. At least with sealed you get
cards from it, but the prize support in boosters isn't even worth
winning in these events. Also going from £5 to £10 is a massive
increase in price especially when the geneal money situation in the
country is pretty poor. I don't get it, but if someone could explain
the massive increase in price even tho the prizes haven't changed then
feel free.

£10 is the new standard rate for all constructed PTQs. No explanation

Yes A Tenner is the standard rate but to be honest if you go to a PTQ,
you go to win the slot not to win a few boosters. Vladimar K won the
PTQ at Reading.

Re: PTQ Bristol 10-Aug-08 *Block Constructed*
Yes that's true (only playing for slot), but there is nothing added to
warrant a 100% increase in price. I could understand maybe a £1
increase, but £10 is massive. What has been added for there to be such
a rise in price? Answer: absolutely nothing. Any younger players who
turn up to win a booster or 2 have now probably been put off with
pricing like that. I just think it's a disgrace.

Re: PTQ Bristol 10-Aug-08 *Block Constructed*
I agree that doubling the price seems like an unfair price hike.
However, constructed tournaments should not be costing £5 at the
moment anyway.

Think how long constructed tournaments have been run at £5 entry fee.
It's been years. In that time, product price has gone up, venue hire
has gone up, staff wages have gone up, but the £5 entry fee has
remained, causing some constructed events to be run at a loss.

If the price was raised to £7.50 a year or 2 back, and £10 now, I
doubt you'd have anywhere near the same objection.

Bottom line - What else can you spend £10 on for a day's
entertainment? Been to the cinema recently?
