Important Birmingham PTQ announcement!
All,

I have had an overwhelming amount of pre-registrations for the
Birmingham PTQ. Initially I offered only 72 places in the event and
when this filled up I have contacted my venue and made arrangements
for additional chairs and tables to be allocated, bringing the total
number of places available up to 96. Unfortunately player demand has
been even greater than this and once we reached 96 places filled no
further pre-registrations have been taken for the event. If you have
applied to pre-register for the event and have NOT received a reply
confirming your pre-registration you are NOT pre-registered for the
event and are NOT guaranteed a place.

If you have applied to pre-register for the event and HAVE received a
reply confirming your pre-registration, you are pre-registered for the
event and ARE guaranteed a place.

What does this mean?

Well, I’m going to get to the venue early and try to arrange the
tables and chairs as best I can to try to accommodate as many people
in the rooms as I can beyond the 96 places already pre-registered. I
will be working as hard as I can to get everyone into the event but I
cannot promise to be able to do this.

Unfortunately all other conference rooms at the hotel are already
booked and therefore I haven’t got a lot of scope to expand the venue
any further.

This is a very unusual situation and I appreciate that it isn’t the
best news to read if you were planning to attend and have not received
confirmation of your place in the event. I hope that you can all
appreciate that I’m going to do all that I can to ensure that you can
participate in the event.

In the morning please bear with us [the event staff] as we will be
making every effort to get this unusually large event running
smoothly.

Please Note: Players that are pre-registered have until 10:20 to
report to the front desk to confirm that they are at the event. You
then have until 10:30 to complete your registration and hand in your
deck registration sheet. After 10:30 any pre-registered places that
have not yet been taken will be released for use by any players
already waiting to get into the event. This will hopefully stop me
from keeping a pre-registered place for a player who hasn’t turned up
for the event.

See you in Birmingham,

Steve

Aw crap. I was actually going to attend this as well.

The moral of the story folks: pre-register early. And then make sure
you turn up!

Re: Important Birmingham PTQ announcement!
To be honest it wasn't anywhere near as manic as you'd expect - Steve
+ judging staff did really well on getting preregistered players in,
then reserves, then others, and despite there being way too many
people every table, though a little cramped, had more than enough room
for a decent game to be played on. Also not entirely sure on this but
as far as i know everyone who turned up got to play. All in all, a
very well run event, thanks!

ps. i won

well done matteo, what were you and the other top 8 playing?

could i just say that if such a situation happens again would it be
possible to post a list of the players who are actually pre
registered? i never received an email back to my preregistration
email and when i phoned steve on friday night he said he didnt think i
was in so i decided not to get the 1.5 hour train on the off chance i
could play but it turns out i was preregistered. not to have a go at
steve cos i know how hard it must be to run a 120 player ptq but it
would have been nice to play.

cheers

I was a bit confused to hear tom's name called out but to never see
him all day, started to wonder if he was hiding or something.

I played atogaffinity, as far as i remember rest of t8 was:

-teps (calum stephenson (lost to me in final))
-2 gruul (i beat both of these in quarters and semis)
-1 domain zoo (lost to teps in semis)
-1 NLU / fortier type deck (paul lim)
- 2 Gifts rock ( 1 played by dingler who came 9th but was allowed in
when somebody playing a fires deck dropped out)

might be wrong on the second gifts, but pretty sure others are correct

highlights of the day include:

me: t2 attack for 11 with 2 frogmites and a plating
opponent: sure, t3 through the breach a protean hulk, win.

--

opponent: tarfire your thopter, swing with a 6/7 goyf t3
me: sure, in with atog, sac some artifacts, fatal frenzy take 26?

mmm noob combos
