OK, nice and slow
The latest 2 sets of magic the gathering are compost, dug up from the
past to fill an ever increasing gap between the innovative, enjoyable,
standard expanding, brain teasing ideas of the past and the not too
distant end of magic. Yes I understand that they were always going to
run out of ideas, but exhuming the crap that was Onslaught and pinning
a badge to it, was in my mind a mistake.
I can only handle so much Mark Rosewater telling me that he is really
excited and that by making decks for us, he has somehow jerked himself
off harder than he ever has before.
Magic innovation has always been the biggest attractor to me when
playing magic. Sitting down and trying to combo bazaar of wonders
with (any other card) has cost me hours of my life, but also provided
me with endless enjoyment. Playing a set that resembles a massive
precon has not. Maybe Ive seen one too many shit set. Maybe the
spark has finally died.
So......and bearing in mind your one of the people at the top of his
game, so I guess you will disagree, am I wrong? Is this set good
fun?
Throw me a bone

Lor and Mor both seems fine to me with plenty of powerful interesting
card. What exactly is it you hate about them?

Re: What a bunch of old crap
Granty,
Have to agree with you. I really dislike Lorwyn and not looking
forward to Morningtide.
Drafting is ok at best but preferred TSP, RGD and OMG I will get so
flamed for this Coldsnap.
Really dont like the way Lorwyn really needs a trong tribe in Sealed
or you can be really under the kosh. Maybe I've been unlucky with some
pools but even when I do well i dont really enjoy playing them.
Then there is Standard, not much fun to break when you've gone all
tribal I agree. Then there are the local events in my area where the
vast majority of the decks are tribal Elves, Faeries, Goblins and
Kithkin were bad enough now Merfolk and Elementals are appearing. At
least Doran is normally the only tree folk and i can enjoy playing
against it.
Lorwyn has removed my spark from magic, I've gone from at least one
event a week to ... well I havent actually played in an event all
year. I'll go to the pre release more to meet my mates and socialise
than actually play.
I normally find the magic glass half full rather than half empty but
Lorwyn has definitely put me on the half empty tack.

I really have no clue what peopel are talking about sometimes. In t2
most of the good decks aren't even slightly tribal. If everyone at
your local event is playing evles couldn't you just pick something
that crushes it?

Re: What a bunch of old crap
Sti,
Generally i ado agree with you and have a deck that generally beats
most of the other tribal decks out their.
I must really be unlucky up here as i see all these lovely deck lists
at Worlds, SCG etc and what do I get Elves, Goblins, Faeries, Kithkin
etc.
Lorwyn brrrr it doesnt half bring me out in a cold sweat.

Hi Stu
I think there is a level of inherant dislike for tribal themes, and as
I am predominantly a limited player, the slide into a tribe and then
hope for good stuff is not my bag. Yes yes, I know its not as
straight forward as that, but it has seemed to me on the drafts I have
played that the good decks are insane and the other decks have to make
do with 2-1's. Maybe I haven't drafted enough, but losing has never
stopped me before (in fact it tends to make me play more). This set
just hasn't juiced me.
But it is this dredging up of past sets that gets on my nerves and
makes me increasingly uninterested. Obviously come nationals, I will
do some more playing as last year was a blast, but that was because of
the partying more than anything.
