Worlds Accommodation
This is mainly for Prof and Marco(Sti, you're crashing with Adam
Barnett, right?). I've been looking at prices for hotels and hostels,
and the options are pretty slim.
The hostels are:
Highbridge House- (Hostel, $30 per night)
http://www.hostelworld.com/availability.php/HighbridgeHouseUptown-NewYork-21904
Jazz on the City (Hostel, $40 per night)
http://www.hostelworld.com/availability.php/JazzontheCity-NewYork-16936
Loftstel(Hostel, $45- $55 per night, Very well reviewed but out of the
centre)
http://www.hostelworld.com/availability.php/Loftstel-NewYork-19735
Broadway Hostel
http://www.hostelsclub.com/hostel-en-5776.html
Hostelling International
http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/usa/new-york-city/1969/
Hotels:
The best offer I could fine was via Hotwire.com for a hotel in
Secaucus which looks pretty close to the Javits Centre. It was $69 per
night, but I'm not sure how that site works as I get the same price
however many people I add.
I'll be in New York from 30th November so will probably book into a
hostel for the first few days at least. I have no problem moving
elsewhere once you guys have arrived.

Hotels.com had some reviews of some hostels, most of which seemed to say
"avoid like the plague" but not for reasons that should bother magic players
(beds not made everyday; threadbare carpets, taped up holes in interior
walls).

Seacaucus is basically a wasteland of reclaimed swamp with major roads and
railways coming through it. Weehauken is a little better. The problem with
either is actually getting to the city - and back again at night. Seacaucus
has a new train station (straight into NY Penn Station, which is convenient
for Javits), but it doesn't seem to have much near it either when I look out
the windows...
I might go up to Hoboken next week and have a look around, as that's a
livelier place with places to go out and things to do, plus a ferry and a
PATH train (underground) to get over to the city. I'll be judging so don't
really want to have to come all the way home each night.

Re: Worlds Accommodation
I think that was the other option: as I'm coming a bit earlier, I
could just book into a hostel for a few nights and spend a few days
looking around for a decent place to stay. This seems pretty risky
though.

Re: Worlds Accommodation
Hiya,
have you got anything booked yet Dan?
I think I'm looking to fly over from 4th-10th.
Dunno what I'm going to do about cards. There all currently taped up
in boxes and sitting in a warehouse :(

Nope, I've been waiting for you and Marco to decide what you wanted to
do. I have a feeling that I'll end up booking into this hostel for a
few nights sometime on the weekend if I can't find anything better,
and then wander around New York for a bit to check out options in
person:
http://www.hostelworld.com/availability.php/ManhattanInnHostel-NewYork-4660
It looks pretty basic, but is the best I've found near to the venue
and is about £21 per night.
Cards-wise...I'm sure we can probably get a few decks together between
us if you're struggling to get yours. It shouldn't be a huge problem
anyway.

I'm flying out this tuesday (the 27th) for 2 weeks. See you all over
there. I'm staying with a friend who lives in New Jersey (Two blocks
over the river from Manhattan, the riverboat drops off just outside
the MTG venue, how luckkkkkky!).

Re: Worlds Accommodation
Hey Guys,
I'm just trying to let Sti know which hotel I'm staying in and I've
realised I've not actually got his email address (I'm kinda assuming
the one he posts with on here doesn't work although I've sent an email
to it anyway). Anyone who is in contact with him... could you let him
know that the hotel I'll be at is the following one...
Hotel Pennsylvania
401 7th Ave
New York, NY 10001
USA
Cool... later,
Adam Barnett
