best way of finding a teaching position after qualifying?
After a teacher has just qualified to teach in secondary schools, what
is the best way for them to find a permanent job?

Should they concentrate on vacancies on the local education authority
website?
Should they try the local job centre or recruitment agencies?

Thankyou for your time

Re: best way of finding a teaching position after qualifying?
apply to every LEA in the U.K. - I had to do that over 32 years ago.. it was
a time when 200 folks were applying for one job. I applied all over and was
prepared to move. Took over 50 applications to be handwritten and sent
before interviews and job offers came in ...

Depends on your subject. If you can offer an "in demand" subject (eg Maths
or Physics), chances are you will get offers of interviews without problems.
You might even say "pick the school you'd like to work in"- IF you can
demonstrate good skills and qualifications in, say, Maths.

I'd also ask around in the schools you did TP in, they may have vacancies or
know of them.

Pick one, or more, LEAs and send details to them. Some (all?) offer a sort
of central clearing house for applicants for their schools.

TES seems to be "the" place for adverts.

Good luck.
