Lapdancing
I set up 12 RM Windowbox laptops today.
They are *not* on the internet, until we get a wireless set up and are
*not* networked - so are just standalone laptops at the moment.
There is no antivirus software on them.
What would be the best solution at the moment?

Don't let anybody use them?
Alternatively, don't let anybody put any floppy disks/USB stick/CD/DVD
or memory cards into them.

As they aren't on the intenet, why bother with anti-virus, unless you
allow little treasures to plug in their own pen drives, etc.?

Doesn't your school (or LEA) have a policy on this, including a standard
anti-virus package? Best stick with that or the muck could hit the fan.

The ICT Suite PCs use the same antivirus as the office PCs.
I don't know how that can be done with standalone computers.
I'm not trying to muck spread.

We've been through all this before Brian. Unless there's something
someone isn't telling her, Sheel's school/LEA seems to live in cloud
cuckoo land where ICT is concerned.

Why?
They're linked to the server, the laptops aren't.

Because they might be able to help you out with the anti-virus software.
For example, they might be able to provide protection/security on all
the computers, not just the networked ones. It has to be worth asking.
Failing them being able to help, if you need to protect the machines
from removable drives one option is to rely on MS products (MSDefender)
to do the job, as the machine won't be so likely to get a virus as if it
were internet linked.
The alternative cheapest option is obviously one of the free antivirus
products on the market like the ones below, though most of them will
probably need online activation, and some are officially "for home use".
Avast! - http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
AVGFree - http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
Avira Personal - http://tinyurl.com/5wwxl6
