aaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh - a ufo!
There is a big round yellow thing in the sky.
What could it be?

Can't see it past the rainclouds from here.
Guess who had a half day today because the area directly around the
school got flooded?

Isn't that rather disruptive to the children's education? I hope you
intend to have the children in for an extra half day later on to make up
for it.

Gosh! Floods in Wales were at the top of the six o'clock news on the
beeb, so it must be bad! You say "around the school", so I'm hoping
there is no damage - saw film of some people bailing out filthy water
from their homes :-(

As long as I don't have to go in too. After all, I worked through it.

There is tons of damage to the surrounding houses, but the school, being
up a hillock esaped. We just sat like a little island in a basin of
water.

Wouldn't the kids have been safer in the school then?
A story I used to like writing and giving was about kids having to
stay at school cos of an emergency. How would they cope etc?

As it was, they had to wade through over a foot of water to get out (or
in) and staff with low slung sporty cars have had to leave them stranded
and beg a lift of those of us with sensible vehicles.
It stopped raining for a while - it's started again now. Pretty soon the
school could be flooded too - almost a pity it's the weekend!

Don't cycle down them will you?
How did your elbow hold up at school?
Did you get lots of sympathy/knocks?

Lots of both the first day, unfortunately. I think the swimming pool
water is helping the healing process as it's coming along quite nicely
now. It's only sore if it gets a knock whilst it's still wet. Once I've
been out of the water a while and the scab has dried, it is no more
painful than a normal knock to an uninjured eblow.
In fact, here's a cheerful little thought which made some of the staff
in my other real-life staffroom shudder when I shared it with them...
half the scab must have fallen off when I was swimming at an early
session one morning this week. It was all there when I got up and went
to the pool, and by the time I was showering after swimming it was half
missing. :)
I suggested we all go to the pool after school and play 'hunt the scab'
in the water.

I might have to.
I went to the garden centre to get a plant - and it rained on the way
home.
I'll have to wait until tomoz now.
I finished tidying up the garage instead.
