Frontpage preview
Yesterday I was helping my friend to redo her school website in Frontpage
2003. She has a brand new laptop running windows XP. For some reason when
she goes to preview she can't see anything other than the page background of
her webpages. I don't have this problem with mine. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, my only idea is to ditch Frontpage and use a proper webpage

I was hoping for some constructive comment! I am well aware of the
shortcomings of Frontpage and would not use it myself but prior to this my
friend had been using Publisher believe it or not and this is a big step up
for her.

Never used THAT program, (I use arachnophilia mostly) but what about
saving the page as html and opening in browser to see what happens.
If it doesn't look like what she's expecting then she has done summat
wrong!!

And whilst she's looking at it, get her to look at it in Firefox as
well, then she might see why it is not a good program to use for web
pages!!

I have a client who used FP to create pages which I then have to make
dynamic by adding server side scripting. The code is awful and very
hard to work with and I've told my client that it costs them money (in
terms of my time) for me to work with its output. Next year I have
decided that it will be cheaper for me to take their designs and mark
them up properly than work with what they produce

FP uses unnecessary code duplication, a mish mash of techniques
including CSS and deprecated mark up, proprietary tags and routines
dependent on proprietary server side scripts. The resulting 'tag soup'
is a nightmare to debug and validate.

You'll probably find more useful advice in the Frontpage newsgroups than here.
Its shortcomings are such that I doubt anyone here uses it any more.

Have you considered using a web based package such as google pages?
IMHO, unless you are a "professional" web designer, then there are
many off the shelf apps that you can bang on a web site to take care
of the CMS for you. Have you come across Website Baker?
