Intersting ks4 ICT courses
Sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone know of any
interesting GCSE level courses to enter their students into?
IMO the standard GCSE courses have boring content which on the whole
students do not want to learn. I know that the core elements have to
be covered with all courses to satisfy QCA but the balance on these is
far too weighted on the side of the boring bits.
Any ideas/opinions would be appreciated.

The big problem is in the perception of ICT by students. Students like
'playing with computers' therefore they think ICT will be fun.
Of course there should never be such a thing as a GCSE in ICT anyway
(or those fancy Dildo qualifications) since most practical aspects of
ICT should be well covered in other subjects. If you had a GCSE in
computing, students would have more of an idea of what they were getting
into.

Whilst I agree black-dog about the playing bit, I am talking more
about the fact that large emphasis on spreadsheets and databases is
for the most part pretty dour, whereas more multimedia content and
concepts such as web design and animation are what a lot of students
actually enjoy doing.

In my opinion there are a couple of interesting qualifications:
iMedia by OCR - http://www.imedia.ocr.org.uk/
Digital Cre8or - http://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=nav.8945
If DIDA gets its act in gear then the 2 new units they are working on
are also very interesting, one of which is computer game design.

In my opinion there are a couple of interesting qualifications:
iMedia by OCR - http://www.imedia.ocr.org.uk/
Digital Cre8or - http://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=nav.8945
If DIDA gets its act in gear then the 2 new units they are working on
are also very interesting, one of which is computer game design.
