Can anyone recommend a video editing package for class use?

I have used MovieMaker (free with Windows) but find converting
Quicktime files from our cameras a real pain.

I have also tried Magix Movie Edit Pro 2005 and have found it to be
very good - it takes Quicktime files and produces good results.  I have
yet to find out if they do an educational site licence etc.

However, does anyone know of any others - with cost a factor?
