Making Children aware of the alternatives to Microsoft
Although we use predominantly Microsoft products, I am keen to promote
awareness of alternative operating systems and applications.

Does anybody have acesss or links to resources that put the other side of
the coin over to children under 13? I have a few older computers on display
that run Ubuntu and Suse with Firefox , Gimp and Open Office etc, but I
would like to initate an honest debate amongst the older pupils. Fill in
lessons really, but I see it as a chance to inform them of choices they may
not be aware of.

Ideally I would teach them the basics of Word Processing, Spreadsheets,
Databases and Presentation and NOT just Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint,
so that their skills would be readily transferable on any platform?

Although a comfortable user of MS and Macs (which are proving to be
remarkably popular amongst the pupils as THE laptop of choice) I only dabble
with Open Source products, but see it as my duty to educate them about the
alternatives.

Any ideas, or resources gratefully received!!
