Maths school books for 3rd and 4th grade
Hello everybody,
I hope I'm right here with my question and somebody can help me out with
this.
A friend of mine from Germany asked me to get him a maths school book
for the 3rd and/or 4th grade from the UK. Now I looked at Amazon and
WHS, but there are hundreds of books available. Is there such a thing
like an official Maths school book which is used in Maths lessons in
Public Schools? If yes, could somebody post a link or an ISBN number,
please?
Thanks for your help
Thomas

What do you mean by 3rd and/or 4th grade? What age group of children
is this for?
8-10 years perhaps? Which is Year 4/5 in the UK

Hi Eddie,
I meant year 3 and 4. I thought this is what "grade" means. Sorry,
English is not my mother tongue ;-)

Ok - thats 7 to 9 year olds - 1st two years of Key Stage 2. No need to
apologise, I'm sure your English is 1000 time better than my German:-)
Next question is really what sort of books are you after?
Personally I would avoid all the Revision type books, of which there
are seemingly hundreds and which seem to change each year.
I'm sure that many teachers will have their favourite books but here a
few of mine:
1.........
New Abacus X: Textbook X (New Abacus) (Paperback)
by Ruth Merttens (Author), David Kirkby (Author)
Where X= a number:-)
EG....
Paperback
Publisher: Ginn & Company (14 April 2000)
ISBN-10: 0602290805
ISBN-13: 978-0602290801
Expensive to buy the whole series but a favourite of a friend of mine
who teaches privately.
2........
Understanding Maths - (Various subtitles) for Key Stage 2 by Steve
Mills and Hilary Koll
Publisher: Schofield & Sims Ltd (30 April 2005)
Language English
eg...
ISBN-10: 0721709745
ISBN-13: 978-0721709741
One of my favourite series and inexpensive.
3.......
Maths Prep Book 1 (So You Really Want to Learn) (Paperback)
by Serena Alexander (Author)
Paperback: 216 pages
Publisher: ISEB Publications (1 Dec 2003)
Language English
eg...
ISBN-10: 1902984188
ISBN-13: 978-1902984186
Very good books but again a little expensive to buy the whole series,
but very comprehensive and will take you up to 13+ at Common Entrance
Level.

Thanks very much. That's more information than I was hoping for. I'll
pass these info's to my friend. I've seen that these books are available
on Amazon.de too, so she doesn't have to wait until I get there the next
time.
Thanks again
