uk.education.maths UK discussion on matters in maths education

Charter
-------
        This newsgroup is intended for discussion of mathematics and
        issues in all aspects of mathematical education, focusing mainly
        from the perspective of UK posters.

        It will allow us to share ideas, experiences and information.
        Forthcoming events can be publicised and reports can be posted
        and discussed. Some people may want to start discussions based
        on articles in periodical publications produced by professional
        maths associations such as the Maths Association and the
        Association of Teachers of Mathematics. Issues raised at
        mathematical conferences could continue to be aired through this
        newsgroup.

   Welcome
        Any UK mathematics teacher or student teacher in all sectors;
        primary, secondary, tertiary and advisory, are welcome to post
        on any appropriate discussion topic. Other UK and non-UK
        posters are welcome to post on matters of interest to UK
        teachers of mathematics, or to contribute to existing
        discussions.

   Discussion topics
        The following are considered on-topic:

 * Announcements of specific interest to UK maths educators
 * Discussions regarding maths teaching in the UK
 * General discussion among maths teachers, prospective
        maths teachers and maths educators

        The following are considered off-topic:

 * Discussion that could better be conducted in an international
        newsgroup such as sci.math
 *      Binaries
 * Posts in languages other than English without translation
 *      Personal abuse/flames
 * It is unlikely that articles cross-posted to more than 2 other
        newsgroups are relevant
 *      Adverts for posts
 *      Advertising by commercial companies

Binary files
------------
        There is a policy that there will be no posting of binary files,
        or pointers to Web or ftp sites, except as answers to specific
        questions as *part* of the response.

Advertising Policy
------------------
        Advertising is not welcome.

        The appropriate place for job/posts adverts is uk.jobs.offered.

        The apropriate place for products/services is uk.adverts.other
        or other relevant groups in the uk.adverts.* hierachy.

Moderation policy
-----------------
        There will be no moderation of postings.

Proponent
---------
        Jill Russell            jrussell@jirus.demon.co.uk

For a guide on how to configure your newsreader/web-browser for posting
to uk.* groups, see <http://www.usenet.org.uk/ukpost.html> .

Proposed changes to this or any other uk.* newsgroup are published in
<news:uk.net.news.announce>, a moderated, low traffic newsgroup, which
you are recommended to subscribe to. Details of elections to the
UK Usenet Committee, which normally start in September of each year,
are also found there.

    For those who are familiar with this post and know how to use killfiles,
    it is possible to avoid downloading this FAQ under normal circumstances
    by adding a reference to kill on the following line:-

        X-Changes: NONE

    When a new version appears this will be modified for the first time it is
    posted, hopefully saving bandwidth..
