Why is internet shopping do FUCKING DIFFICULT... (Dabs and Play.com)
I decided over Xmas to buy myself a new laptop, and sell on my old Sony
Vaio, which has done me proud service, this was Jan 1st, so I looked
around, and on Jan 2nd decided on the Sony Vaio Ar51E, which is discounted
at Play.com, and others. Seeing as I had a £30 xmas voucher, Play.com got
my buisness..
Ordered Jan 2nd, item was in-stock. And waited, Jan 3rd, item was still
at order recieved, with no payment taken, same for Jan 4th. Phoned them,
they said it was in the process of being dispatched, I asked did I have a
unit allocated, the reply was yes, and that the status will update soon.
Jan 5th came alone, no change. Phoned them again, sorry item is out of
stock!! The customer services basically lied to me, to buy them some
time, knowing full well the item was out of stock when I phoned earlier in
the week. They could not tell me when it was back in, so I cancelled the
order there an then. I asked the CS guy what would happen to my
part-payment with the voucher, he had no idea, and nobody else knew, I
would have to phone them and sit in a queue on Monday morning (great...),
so I hung up.
Found the same laptop on Dabs, so orderd from them, had a long standing
previous acount, which I hadn't used for a year or so, Ordered the
laptop. Got an immediate email about Security Check, and I needed to
email them back my details. I figured rightly, that nobody would read my
email on a weekend, so cancelled and re-ordered from Dabs using Google
Checkout, which again, used many times, never any issue. Got the same
same email. Cancelled order, re-ordered using Switch (that MUST fucking
work, as nobody verified switch payments) same fucking email.. Figured I
had no choice, so replied with my details.
Here I am now 5 days later, still waiting for Dabs to action my email,
there is obviously no telephone number to call, and the web chat usually
has upwards of 50 people waiting in the queue. Several times I waited in
their web chat queue, only to be told that it's web orders and they can't
deal with those. One time, I got though, and the guy claimed there was a
backlog of 24hours (more like 6 days).
So here I am, if my laptop does not ship from dabs tommorrow, on a next
day, then it stretches into week 3.
WHY IS INTERNET SHOPPING SO FUCKING DIFFUCULT....
Whilst I may forgive Play.com, there is no way on this planet I am ever
shopping with Dabs again (or their clone BT shop).
Anyone do this laptop, and can match Dabs on price, and get it dispatched
on an next day? If so, let me know, I would hate to give my money to
those fuckheads at Dabs...

because people buy from companies without checking what they are like.
I would NEVER buy from dabs.com (past experience) or play.com (did not
respond to a 'test' email properly - plus they are outside the UK as
far as consumer law is concerned IIRC IANAL).
Over the years I have collected bookmarks of sites that have given
stirling service when problems arise. You are also making the mistake
of buying the cheapest - how do you think these outfits keep the
prices so low? They're shite, that's how.

Ah ... Play.com the non-EU VAT fiddlers with personnel in England.
Serves you right. You should have spent a few quid more and given your
money to a local retailer.

I fell foul of play dot com when an MP3 player broke after two months.
They refused to replace it despite it being nearly new. I won't use
them ever again no matter how cheap they are.

TBH there are not many companies that have really good after sales
service. crucial is about the only one I am 100% satisfied with. scan
aren't bad IME.

£300 is not "a few quid more".
Every other retailer, besides Play, Dabs and (as I have since found out,
CCL, which have always given me a good service), has it listed for over
£300 more....

First visit SpecSavers, then go to
http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=17384&category_id=269&manufacturer_id=0
CCL are actually £9 cheaper (incl VAT) than the play.com fraudsters
who pocket the VAT element.

Yes, that proves that you did not understand the colloquial use of the word
"besides" (meaning "other than" or "bar") when the OP said:
"Every other retailer, besides Play, Dabs and (as I have since found out,
CCL, which have always given me a good service)...." to show that the OP
ranked CCL among the cheaper sellers (though out of stock).
Was it Ronnie Barker in "Open All Hours" who had the line "Yes, well my
potatoes are only fourpence a pound when I haven't got any, too."?

A difference of £30 I could understand, but a difference of £300 should
be ringing alarm bells. It's simply too good to be true.

Presumably as several sellers have it at that price it's an end-of-line
clearance, and some sellers are stuck with old stock for which they paid
full price.

You realise of course, that if you'd had a little patience, Play would
probably have delivered by now?

The only reason I went with Play, rather than shopping around, was their
price was one of the best around, and I had a £30 voucher to further
reduce the price, so it was a no brainer. After screwing me around, I
went with dabs, as a quick search showed only them to be anywhere close.
It was only when I got my CCL newsletter in my work inbox on the Monday,
did it occur to me to check them, and was suprised to see they were
competitive, but slightly relieved they were out of stock.
Given the choice of all 3, CCL would always get my buisness, as they have
always cared about customer service, that said, the price needs to be in
the rough ballpark, and it needs to be instock.
Any, I now have my laptop from Dabs (their "security check" only took 4
days), and my next day delivery purchase took 6 days in total. I won't be
ordering from them in a hurry again, they can go fuck themselves with a
very large broomhandle.

I don't shop with companies that lie to me... Likewise I don't shop with
companies that use Shittylink as a courier.
My first 2 rules...
My 3rd rule of course, is never order from a company that hides it's phone
number from you (new rule added today, after the Dabs fiasco).
I did eventually get the laptop, and very pleased, it's not end-of-line,
it's a new model, as the restore image is dated 29th Nov 2007..
