Unable to delete 'Trash' in evolution
Connecting via IMAP to our email server I'm finding that Evolution
cannot empty the 'Trash'. When I click the 'Empty Wastebasket'
option is thinks about it for a while and then nothing.

Also, it may be related, but it seems that all emails that /don't/
match to my filters are automatically deleted. They used to work
fine, but something's gone wrong somewhere,

Anyone have any ideas?

Same thing happening to me on Evolution. Have it on a laptop and can't
get the "Trash" to empty! It already says that "203 emails deleted",
but they are still there! I am just going to uninstall Evolution and
use TBird.

It's not just me then, bugger. For reasons mentioned in another
thread, I've had to move *from* TBird. Enjoy, tbird is great (IMHO)!

Its a known Evolution bug - 550414 "Corruption of mailbox and can't
expunge trash".

Its quite an old bug (since at least 2008). Developers periodically
fiddle with it but its still active. There is a work-round:

- stop Evolution

- delete .evolution/mail/local/folders.db
  (.evolution/mail/accounts/folders.db in some versions).

- restart Evolution, which rebuilds folders.db.

The main drawback is that you'll loose your meta-data and message
tagging. It worked OK for me without any side effects, but then I don't
tag messages or knowingly use meta-data. The problem hasn't reappeared
since I deleted it. There's some talk that file corruption generated by
an earlier version than I'm running now triggered the problem.

Sadly, I don't have a folders.db file anywhere under .evolution. Also
looking at the bug comments I can see it is for POP accounts. There
is a related bug 568409 for IMAP, which has been fixed in version
2.25.92.

However, I'm on CentOS 5.2 which has a very old version of Evolution
(2.12.3). I've tried compiling a newer version from source, but I've
got an unresolvable dependency in one of the libraries... :(

Looks like I'm going to have to try something else.
Thanks for your help.
