When I ordered a 901, I got a 900 by mistake. Not realising this for a
couple of days, I ran it up and was delighted with it. However, I had
ordered an Atom powered model and sent the 900 back. 

The 901 is equally fine in every respect except one, the Wifi is very flaky
and gives a 45% signal strength when about two feet (say 60cm) from the
Wireless router. I read one letter on the net suggesting the WiFI unit on
the 901 was in fact inferior, Has anyone else any experience with it?

No direct experience but I recall a review of WiFi devices in one of the 
comics. One of the devices they reviewed had very poor connectivity when 
close to the router but better further away. You may find that you get 
better reception if you move a few metres away from the router.

Tim Anderson has been having difficulties with WiFi on the 901 -- there's 
some discussion and some possible workarounds on his blog ...

It was the other way round, I moved towards it until I got some signal. Most
of the time it was negligible. At present our guests have a Pentium III
laptop with a Linksys wireless card that does better and a MacBook Pro that
does even better.

I think that will help solve one problem but from the signal level my from
what I've read, my guess is that I will also need a new Wireless card. I
intend to install Mandriva One as soon as i can. That apparently is EEE
configured.
