Idea for external hard drive fan
Hi
I have two external hard drives which are fitted to enclosures and they tend
to get a bit hot.
I was thinking of connecting a jumper lead to the power plug that goes into
the hard drive so that i have an extra plug which I could connect to a one
of these hard drive fans that are usualy fitted to an internal hard drive
could I please have some opinions on my idea....
                              Thanks from Tim

Hi Tim,
That should work ok, but what you actually need is air flowing
into and then out of the enclosure, so you'll need to put the
fan somewhere that has a grill, so that it sucks cool air in and
there must be a second grill that the warmed air can get out of.
If there are no grills etc on the enclosure, all you'll be doing
is circulating hot air, which won't help. As long as you are careful,
you could probably use a small (eg 4mm) drill to make a pattern
of holes, if there aren't any.
HTH,
