Acer Aspire 1353XV ?
I have just been given an Acer Aspire 1353XV Laptop.

The battery is dead, so I plugged it into the mains. When I press the power
button, I can hear the fan start up and then it dies within seconds. Nothing
else happens. It juyst appears dead.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem could be please ?

Either the battery or the charger is knackered.

Have taken the battery off the laptop, tried to boot up with power supply,
same thing happens. Tried the power supply on another laptop, works fine.

Next ?

So the charger's OK.

(Will the laptop run off the charger alone? I.e. does not require the
battery to be in place).

Put the battery back in and check the battery voltage with the laptop
connected.

If it's pulling the voltage down, you have a short or a failed component
in the laptop.
