I have an issue that I don't quite understand and I would appreciate
comments and suggestions.

I just added a d-Link DGS 1005D gigabit switch to my network
The switch connects my main computer to a gigabit NAS and to the
router, a Draytek Vigor 2800vg

However, the computer cannot see the router, does not ping it and
cannot open the web interface, regardless of whether I use DHCP or
not.

If I connect the computer directly to the router, everything seems to
work fine.

However, when I connect the switch to a previous Draytek Vigor, a
2600Plus, the computer sees the router, pings it, etc.

It seems odd that the switch would be incompatible with the 2800vg
router, I have not found any mention of it anywhere on the net.

We had a lightning storm not long ago, before I added the switch.

The question is: 
Does it make sense to think that the 2800vg router got damaged by the
storm enough so that it cannot see devices over the switch but still
work for devices connected directly and wirelessly?

Has anybody had any experience in this respect?

How can I test to reach a definitive answer? Replacing the router
would set me back a tad less than a couple of hundred pounds and the
current conditions of my business strongly advise against spending
anything at all.

PS The main reasons for using a 2800vg are 
1) Surfcontrol web filtering; 2) LAN segmentation into Virtual LANs,
invisible to each other; 3) Wireless; 4) VoIP

Well I have an almost identical set-up to yours, a LAN using a gigabit
switch to interconnect several computers and a Draytek Vigor 2820
connecting the switch to the outside world.  It works fine so I
suspect you have *something* broken, though whether its the router or
something else I wouldn't know.

Does this switch contain a DHCP server or is it a dumb box? If so then 
you have the draytek and the switch both trying to dish out IPs.

Disable the DHCP on the switch (if it has DHCP of course).
