Hi, I have an older LG GSA-4163B DVD burner and it can be quite fickle WRT which make of discs it will burn to. This makes it a pain in the ass to buy blanks as they don't make the one's I've been previously using. So I could buy a load of blanks, only to find I've wasted my money as they won't burn on my writer. Are newer DVD burners less picky about which blanks they will burn to these days? I was thinking of just spending £15 or so on a new burner and not having to worry which blanks I buy (no cheap and nasty ones though) as a simple fix. Cheers.

It's probably not a matter of pickiness, but of the firmware in your old drive not recognizing the dyes used in modern blanks. Yes, a newer drive would know how to handle more and newer dye types -- but you may be able to upgrade the firmware in your old drive to recognize newer disk types. Cheers, Daniel.
