2 hardware problems - help pls.
Apologies to those of you have already seen this on the U.A.C. group.

1) A PC i've just built out of an old mobo.

Boots up fine into the BIOS Screen, Bios shows a checksum error,
change a few options like boot sequence, and save & exit, then PC
refuses to reboot into BIOS screen. Powers on, but does not initialise
display

Clear CMOS and repeat, same thing, boots into BIOS screen.

What does the assembled think Dodgy CMOS battery ? Board is an ABIT
KT7 Raid

2) Sony Vaio laptop. Had to disassemble to desolder and replace the
dodgy power plug on the mainboard, but now it is back together, it has
the symptoms of having the power switch depresssed all the time, i.e
you shut it down and it immediately powers itself up and reboots. On
powering the laptop for the first time, you need to press the power
switch to turn on.

So in summary, press power switch to power on, shut down or hibernate
and it does not power off, only restarts.

Thanks

Paul.
