WTD: Tiger
Hi All

Friend has an iLamp that needs some serious updating. It's currently
running 10.2.x with 256MB RAM and I'd like to install Tiger and up the
RAM.
Crucial can take care of the RAM but I'm wondering if anyone has a full
Tiger install retail DVD (not an upgrade disc) surplus to requirements
that they'd like to sell?

Thanks.

Despite what others have said before, I would not try 10.4 or higher on
it.
I put it on my PB 1.5ghz 768mb, and the fans were running regulalry, so
took it iff as it was so annoying, then tried it on the flat screen
1.8ghz 512mb iMac, and found it did the same on that - a lot more fan
use - the iMac is also going back to 10.3.9, as the noise irritates me
so much - before the update, I can only recall the fans coming on once
or twice before.
After advice, I then tried 10.5, with the same result, so I had bought
and sold 10.4 and 10.5 in a matter of weeks, both at a slight loss,
which was rather annoying.
Alan.

Can't help with the original request, but I'd have to offer a different
opinion to the last poster... I have Tiger on a 1.6Ghz G5 iMac & a 1.42Ghz G4
iBook. No problems. 10.4.11 (the last Tiger iteration) is solid. I know a
couple of people with it on G3 iBooks (700Mhz/800Mhz) and also a 1Ghz iLamp.
All running fine. As long as you bump that RAM up to 1Gb, you'll sail along.

Cheers ... Mark

I can only get the RAM up to 768 as I don't fancy delving too far
inside so hopefully that'll do.

Re: WTD: Tiger
In practical terms:
Two machines, both had 10.3.9, upgraded to 10.4.4 via CD, then
upgraded over the 'net to 10.4.11 ...
One is 400mhz TiBook with 768 meg of RAM
Second is 450 mhz G4 tower with 1 Gig of Ram.
Both work fine.
The trick was finding the upgrade CD (there is this MAC shop on
Stevens Creek Bvde in Sunnyvale, CA, and I was lucky ... ...)

It should, it worked fine for me for a few months.

Thank you Geoff. Much as I'd like to visit Sunnyvale it's a bit far from
North West London just to pick up a CD :-). As previously mentioned I
need to get hold of a full install as friend's iLamp is currently 10.2
and the upgrade discs only work from 10.3. Hoping to bag one on eBay.
