For some reason people will bid from £1 up to way past whatever minimum
bid you've put on your MacBook Air, but they won't start at that price.

Putting a high (or any) minimum bid price on an eBay auction is a good
way of discouraging bidding. I guess it depends whether you want to be
absolutely sure of getting a certain price or not selling it, or you
want to sell it for whatever price the current market will pay.

Yeah, I am rapidly coming to that conclusion. Oh well, it belongs to my
company not to me so I guess there is no real urgency to selling it.

Well it depends. I just sold my Mini on eBay for a bit more than I was
expecting (and perhaps a little more than I would expect it to fetch
second hand, it being rather close to the price of it new).. I had put
£150 as the minimum, which was kind of the least I could afford to get
for it. Can't see that it would have fetched more had I started with it
at £1. On the other hand, I wouldn't have put it up at £300.. a
starting price of £995 for the MBA might indeed be a psichological
hurdle to climb.

I think you are right. Have updated it to starting price of 900 pounds
and buy it now of 995 pounds.

Don't really want to take less than 900 but it has to be a good buy
considering the price some of the American imports seem to go for.

Anyone that can get the VAT back effectively gets it for 17.5% less than
that as well.

Might still be a little steep, mind you. See how it goes, I s'pose.

And of course I meant 'psychological':P
