Beige tower G3 upgraded with a 1Ghz G4 chip — Valuation?
I’m just dipping my toe in the water here but I wouldn’t mind an
estimate. I want to get rid of a lot of computer gear I have, and one
of those items is the Mac I use mainly. It is a tower beige G3 running
a Sonnet 1Ghz G4 processor and it had two hard drives, both I think
about 40Gb. It has OS9.2.2 installed. The G4 upgrade does work with
OSX, but there is issues installing it using the upgrade (i.e. OSX has
to be installed using a native Apple CPU or a hard drive with OSX
installed has to be fitted.) I also have a G4 Quicksilver and I want
to install OS9.2.2 on that once I have rid myself of the G3. The
reason I am sticking with OS9 is that all my software is OS9. Yes, I
know that I can use it under Classic but I can't be arsed. So what do
you good folk reckon I could realistically get for the G4-upgraded
beige tower G3? If you want to email me personally (or even make me an
offer), that's fine. PP

I wouldn't have thought it's worth anything if it's a struggle to run
OSX.

I didn't say that: I said that installing OSX requires that the G3 is
running a native Apple chip, not a foreign upgrade chip. Once OSX is
installed, it runs like a breeze whatever chip it is running on. PP

Well, best of luck. I'd ask you to pay me to take it away...
