Cyberprog - servers down ??
Hi,
Does anyone else have problems accessing Cyberprog or hosted sites?
Ours has been down nearly a day now and unlike previous occasions, we
cannot collect mail, ftp in or even get to www.cyberprog.net or .com

Yes, no web site, no email and no access to the control panel.

I am in the same situation. Not receiving email, Cyberprog not accepting
email I send, and hosted website unavailable. Also cannot access
www.cyberprog.net. My ISP is VirginMedia on cable

There was a issue with the Firewall, Alex replaced it last night and it was
reset today.

Seems rather bad hosting if customers can't get hold of anyone
when they have problems and have to post on a news group to get
some action sorted out.
Maybe a 2nd online email, gmail, hotmail which can only go down if no
internet access.

I dont know about you George, but I can get hold of alex 24/7 even if it
means getting him out of bed, and to be fair to the guy for what I and maybe
you pay he reacts almost instantly, if there is a problem he will tell me
straight.
He stated a while ago he does not check here often, and here George maybe
you have a point becuase you probably chose Alex from others simply becuase
he was at the time a regular here.
Anyway back to this weekend I can only praise him for the speed he dealt
with it, the honesty of telling me straight the severity of the problem and
timeline given to sort it.
He knows as I do immediatley when there is a problem, other casual users may
not realise but I know if in a 7 minute period I have not got a email then I
know there is a problem and when I mention it to Alex by the means off
communication I have with him then he is usually alleady on top of it !
To be fair to both of us, I knew there was a problem at about 7.45pm last
night, the first post on here was 12.24pm Sunday, that is a long time after
and for that reason I can only assume you are pretty casual users who pay
for a pretty casual service - and when I was in touch with him last night-
he was allready on top of it, not only that but im pretty sure if he was
inundated with emails and calls from other members it would have only slowed
the repair situation down.
overall the shortage was that of about 15hrs but no emails were lost and no
webspace affected, so on the whole it was resolved well.
All I can say George to your issue is if you are a business customer then
look at what your paying and compare it elsewhere, if not, I dont think you
have cause to moan for what you pay and maybe you should ask Alex how you
cant contact him should this arise again.
I in the past have been with many providers but have stuck with Alex for a
while now and really compared to others the guy does well for a small
outfit.
In my time other than a few email outages, I cant knock it, if your a
business customer then as with everything its best to have a contingency
plan

Hi Andy, I'm not a customer of Alex I was just pointing out that an
alternative email where he could be contacted in case of an outage
would be helpful for his customers.
Not at all slating him, I'm sure he does offer a good service at a good
price, Posts in here show that he is a good guy.
I have my hosting somewhere else and I'm extremely happy with the
service they provide for the price they ask.
The odd time they have a problem I can email them and get an instant
reply and time frame to the problem been fixed.
Just out of interest Alex what sort of price could you do this service
for: Small part of the package I'm on but the most important:
750gb Web Space
1000 MySQL Databases (Not really needed using 4)
Transfer 7 Terabyte per month
Unlimited IMAP/POP3 Mailboxes

Hi George,
I wouldn't be interested in quoting for that. You're probably paying
$5 a month for a hopelessly oversold service ;)

We have sadly had several failures with our firewall systems, the
first being at approx 9.30 last night, which took me until approx 2am
to get on site, troubleshoot and replace with another unit. We then
lost the backup unit at about 9am today, and I was able to get on site
about midday to replace it with another (different) unit by about 2pm,
with various configurations being worked on till about 5pm.
This failure was out of our control, to lose not one, but two
firewalls in such a short space of time is totally out of the
ordinary, and we hope that plan c holds and we don't have to resort to
plans d and e, but we will if required. I've personally spent around 8
hours on the m4 today, and nearly 6 hours in the datacentre, with 5
hours of sleep in between - not good!
For what it's worth, firewall 1 seems to have eaten it's psu, and
possibly the main board also, and firewall 2 corrupted it's os, and
now won't let me recover the firmware back onto it :) Needless to say,
I'm not using any more sonicwall kit now! We're looking to replace the
firewall with a pair of Cisco PIX units, as clearly this is a weak
point in our network. All I can ask is that our customers please bear
with us, and not to worry, if it's down, we'll be working on it!
Oh and having another contact address for me to respond from would be
a waste of time, as if I'm answering queries about what's going on,
I'm not actually fixing the problem :) I am however going to set
something up off-network at our office for status updates, which will
be reachable when the main network is unavailable.
Alex.

Thanks for your efforts, Alex. Hopefully Plan C is on track and you can
execute the final steps - a quiet beer and a good night's sleep.
