might have something to do with the postmen being on strike over the last
few weeks?

No because I sacked off Royal Mail ages ago and use a courier firm
instead. I pay 2/3 of what RM/ parcelforce charge for their 48hr service
for next day delivery.

Yes

A second class recorded delivery item I posted on 22/09/09 has not yet
been delivered.

'Item *********** was posted at The Post Office DE56 1** on 22/09/09 and
is being progressed through our network for delivery'

So your website saying that you use Parelforce 48 hour is a bit misleading
then.

Might seem a minor point but if I miss Parcelforce deliveries I don't have a
lot of problems collecting them. If I miss couriers I can have upto 120 mile
round trip to collect. I'd be annoyed if I paid for Parcelforce and it
arrived by a different courier.

Don't worry - I stay up that way, and its a nightmare with wildcat strikes
happening. I'm sure they could sack all these muppets and let some real
folk who want a job do it more effectivley. Its a right royal pain in the
arse when these c*nts do this, pissing off the customers isn't an effective
solution that I can see anyway......Cue the arguments........

The difference is greater for myself - if I miss a normal royal mail
delivery I can have it redelivered to my local post office a couple of
streets away and pay 50p fee when I collect the item, if I miss parcelforce
they automatically leave the item at my post office and charge me £1 fee
for keeping it safe.

I don't drive so if I miss any other courier I have to either have the item
redelivered to my workplace (some couriers won't do this and only redeliver
to original address) or book a whole day off work to be in for redelivery
which is also tricky as some couriers automatically try redelivery to same
address the next day so I miss 2 delivery attempts before I can contact
them with a more convenient solution - UPS are the worst for this as their
redelivery website only works in business hours (as does their call centre)
so by the time I'm home to see the failed attempt card I already know they
have another attempt scheduled I'll also miss.

no arguments here - fuck the lot of them if they don't want to do the work -
now they want overtime to clear up the massive backlog of mail that they
caused by striking!

The Japanese have a useful system for delivery of parcels, with a
network of drop-off points based around konbinis or convenience stores.
These are shops that are open usually till 11 p.m.; some stores in the
big cities are 24-hour. Packages from organisations like amazon.jp are
delivered to a local konbini specified by the customer and who then
picks them up at their leisure after they receive a email or text
telling them the parcel has arrived. If one of the big supermarket
chains like Tesco's were to do the same thing with their corner-shop
stores they'd make a mint.

I use UPS and they far superior of any courier IMO and I have had many
courier accounts in my past.

UPS Drivers will phone you if your numbers on the package, Give the sender
your number and maybe you wont have so many problems.

There call centre works upto 8pm and the website is 24.7, maybe you are
confusing them with others.
