what are the current news server names?
I am reinstalling on my laptop. On my desktop I use two news servers:
text.news.virginmedia.com
virginmedia.com
Both of which are ridiculously slow and sometimes not even there. Are there
others? Are they better?

Do you mean news.virginmedia.com and yes they are slow. Early morning
and late evening tend to be best, rest of the time forget it unless you
have a lot of time to wait. Bit like their internet service in fact -
SLOWWWWWwwwwww!

Yes, I did mean news.virginmedia.com. Are there just the two? There used to
be quite a handful, and at one time the ntl servers as well.

They are the only two I know of since the Virginmedia thing happened,
think everything got rolled up into just those two. All the old virgin
groups got the chop as well, replaced with virginmedia groups of which
there are quite a lot. Some of them are for cable users rather than DSL
and they appear to attract replys from VM staff from time to time which
never happened with the old virgin groups.
They are probably the best place to try, perhaps in
virginmedia.support.usenet and virginmedia.discussion.usenet. Or do a
search using virginmedia and take your pick. Don't frequent them myself
as I prefer the company in here and have 'known' some of the people for
years.
