Report on broadband
Forgive my lack of techy expertise, but if virgin
broadband goes like greased weasel shit, why is their
newsgroup support, as dead as dodo do-does?

That is truely unbelievable. Why then does my connection drop to around
40k at peak times.

I think that report is probably a bit misleading in that it isn't clear
whether it refers to ADSL (phone line) customers or cabled customers or
both. Since they mention that Virgin's reputed high speeds are down to a
network of fibre optics rather than copper wires, I think the results are
probably skewed. Those of us who are still relying on phone wires to
deliver the service are well and truly screwed!

Yes, I sure you are right thinking about it, though I thought the fibre
service was a lot faster than 8 Meg. Should really compare like with like.

BTW I tale back all the nice things I said about Virgin's service in the
past. Since they switched me to the same crap server that the rest of
you are on I get the same crap service. It's normally o.k. during the
day but once the wretched brats get home from school everything goes
down hill.

You may recall, in the days of 'dialup' Friday and
weekend evenings were a nightmare. I used to be
salesmen for a couple of cable companies (beware the
knock on the door) when I lived in London.Technical
training on cable/internet was pretty scant "Sell the
sizzle, not the sausage" was the maxim. Happy (daze).

That's pretty much what you get from Virgin ADSL after 5pm every day ... not
a sausage!

ROFLOL - Beautifully put.

Sadly there dosn't seem to be anything better that I can see or else I
would be there.

Shortly after I joined Cabletel, number portability
came in and this was a huge selling feature. Pity you
can't port your addies around.
