Scam Phone Calls
Did we have a discussion about scam phone calls a while ago where someone
phones you then when you answer they cut off? Its been happeing to me
several times this week...They leave a number but I'm sure I read on here
that if you ring the number back you get overcharged for the call....Not
that I'm stupid enough to ring anyone back that hangs up on me...I was
wondering if anybody knows the phone number they are using!

Not heard that one Jean but it does sound odd that who it is did not
hide the number. What's the code prefix as a matter of interest?

The neighbourhod watch ringmaster had this one last night.
The prefix was 070467 and it's £100 for 15 mins or something like
that.

Hoax or not let it be a warning to us not to ring back the number when
someone keeps hanging up on us..If its someone we know they will find a way
of getting in touch!

Re: Scam Phone Calls
Folks,

The most expensive call you can make in England is £1.50 a minute, the
£100.00 for 15 mins is an urban legend

Doesn't matter. Recently, 0207 (I.e. London) numbers have been used.
Amongst other things, the caller wishes to confirm your name, and post
code. This assumes you call them back, of course. Within a few days,
you get a bill in the post. Usually for about £12.00 for a few (less
than five) minutes on the 'phone.

It's not illegal, it gets around the premium rate call line regulations.
Of course, it's still a scam.
