I just had my first encounter with Vista.
Blimey, what a dog!
One of my children has a laptop running Vista and was saying he had run out
of disk space. The first problem was trying to search for files and
olders - either of a type or a size and identifying duplicates. How
difficult was that? A real ordeal. I finally found vast amounts of data
stored in duplicate and even triplicate in 'virtual store' folders.
Uninstalling the program didn't remove it, so you hold your breath and
delete, delete delete. What a mess.

I've deliberately stayed clear of Vista Tim because I've yet to find anyone
who has been able to run all their legacy programs successfully on it. Add
to that reported problems with drivers to support old hardware etc etc.
I regularly use Norton Ghost (reminds me I need to do one this weekend) to
make an 'image' of my Dell workstation's C Drive onto another drive, and
when I do buy a new computer with the inevitable 'must have' Vista on it, I
shall format the C Drive and load my old faithful XP Pro image onto it.
Luddite? ... possibly ... but I see no reason to abandon something that has
served me faithfully.
Dave.

Thing that really annoys me is that when you buy a new computer you have
to buy the operating system with it. Wasn't always that way as when i
brought my Escom (all those years ago) you could choose which OS was
installed ar save money and don't have anything installed.
I have read somewhere that MS are now going to make XP Home available
available to some OEM's.

When I look at the Novatech systems there is always an option to have no OS
pre-installed. Looking more carefully they are still offering XP but they
always have most stock of systems without OS.
