Virgin Groups RIP
So, assuming someone is out there, it appears that coincident with the
change of news server is the axing of the virgin newsgroups. Not
surprising really considering how little use they got.
Hope you switched your newsreader to the new server o.k.

Hi John, you obviously changed server successfully. After a day or so it
seems snappier than the old Virgin.net server. Got to hand it to Virgin
for once as a warning message has popped up on every news group I was
subscribed to. I guess they must have blanketed the whole lot
I do hope that this doesn't mean a change of mail server eventually. Not
a big deal but you have to let everyone know, which can be time
consuming when you're as disorganized as I am.

Hi Alec
It's a pain losing the virgin and ntl groups, because on the very rare
occasions that news.individual wasn't working, they came in handy.
I've now loaded news.cable.ntl.world.com on OE, but all I can access is
virgin ng's. If I type uk or alt it keeps rejecting as "There are no items
which match your current filter criterea"

It seems as though the old servers are still there but not accepting any
new messages. We now have to use one of the various virginmedia groups
via either news virginmedia.com or text.news.virginmedia.com. The only
benefit of the change is that the new servers seem to be faster. than
the old.

Agh thanks Alec, those 2 servers accept most of the alt, rec, uk etc groups
I use and yes it does seem faster. I'll try some of the binaries on nvc.

Update : yep downloaded alt.binaries.pictures.aviation and much faster than
my old 204.153.244.171 server. What's the catch? Will it all freeze up on
Friday at 5pm? :-(

I have had one iffy patch but in the main it seems a great improvement.
