Bank account query/advice
I have recently had an upgrade put through on my Halifax current
account which now makes my account chargeable. They say I upgraded
online, I have no memory of doing this. I have sent them a letter of
complaint : On Friday I received a new debit card from you stating it
was for an Ultimate Reward account. I have since been told that this
account is a chargeable account with certain benefits attached to
paying the monthly fee. I have no knowledge of signing up for this
account.

I immediately rang your customer service team to query this. They
explained what the account was and that there systems showed I had
signed up for this online. I have no recollection of doing so. I asked
to cancel. The advisor said I could not cancel as it had been ordered
online, I checked your terms and conditions and they advise you can
cancel within 14 days.

As I was well within my 14 days ( I am ringing 2 days after the
“order” has been placed), I stated this to the advisor who then said
that yes I could cancel but that the account I had before was not
available and I would need a type of account that charges me £1 per
day for every day that I am in my overdraft. As you can see from my
account I struggle financially and paying £365 a year to have a £100
overdraft is neither ideal or practical. I again stated to the advisor
that my cancellation rights give me 14 days to change my mind. He said
they only way I could go back to my normal account was to put in a
fraud complaint & have my online banking suspended. This was not
practical so I declined.

I then rang your customer service relations line as advised in the
terms and conditions who advised again that I can not cancel… I can
indeed change my agreement to the £1 a day account but I can not
cancel the agreement. Seeing as this is not an agreement I have any
knowledge of making I disagree. Your customer relations line advise
that this can be done with just the small click of a button on my
online banking, I have no knowledge of clicking this button and nor is
the account suitable or of any use to me.

As per my account terms and conditions I am writing to you to state
that I wish to cancel the agreement for the Unlimited Reward account
that has been placed on my account with no knowledge from myself and
revert back to the original agreement I was on.

I want to go back to my normal, every day current account, Surely as I
am within my 14 days I can do this? They have said not... Any advice
would be appreciated

They only offer the reward and ultimate reward account in their current
ccount range, unless your a student.
So either pay £1 a day on your overdraft or pay £12.50 a month. You could
simply just change banks.
