Why have they dug up the raised pathway thing in the middle of Princes
Street?

It's how they done it last time around!
I'm not sure what's going on but the delays on Princes St associated with
these roadwork's were attributed to the development of the tram routes in
last weeks EEN.

But what about 'bus stops'?

Will the trams just stop and people have to scurry across a lane of
homicidal bus drivers with Death Race 2000 fantasies?

with the previous generation of trams, there were "islands" (raised
concrete platforms) in the middle of the road at tram stops. You waited
for a gap in the traffic before crossing to/from the pavement.

Sounds a bit too sensible, though self-selecting who should be allowed to
continue to live & breed might not be a bad idea.

Is that feasible in today's retardo culture?

In Poland, none of the railways are fenced off, you can go and play on the
tracks. Why is this? Well, according to locally held belief if you are
stupid enough to play on the tracks, it is probably better for society if
you discover why it is unsafe for your self!

'islands' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The health and safety brigade will have kittens, do you honestly think our
current population is smart enough to deal with this concept, crossing the
road safely?

I suppose it could be seen as pro Darwinite population winnowing.

Proper Pedestrian Crossings with lights might be needed.

Re: Princes Street Bollards
There are not many tram stops in Princes Street - 1 to be exact.

The map shows one stop at Shandwick Place, the next at The Mound and the
next one
round in St Andrews Square.

You are going to have to do a lot of walking !

Trolley buses would be far better and save all the digging up of streets.

I'm pretty neutral to the whole tram debate but this 'lack of stops' has
came up a few times on the EEN columns. People who don't want it built then
complain there's not enough stops, so from no construction to more
construction, you can't please some folk.
Anyway, Shandwick place - Mound - St Andrews Sq, not that great a walk is
it? No wonder we're a nation of fatties!

It is a long walk if you are carrying a pile of stuff you have bought in the
shops!

How heavy is a couple of mobile phones, some hair accessories, a cheap kilt
and a tartan tammy? After all that's all the shops Princes Street has to
offer apparently ;-)
