Sorry I'm not replying under the thread header but I seem to have
trouble doing so, therefore this will appear as a fresh topic, but it
isn't....

I'm not sure what you mean. If you're trying to find a relationship
between GDP and Exports (or GDP and Imports), why do you need any other
variables?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the outline you give in your opening
paragraph could hardly be easier - why did you choose it (or agree to
it) if you had no idea of how to go about it?
Two suggestions: get stats on GDP from a printed source -- usually far
easier to track down what you want than on the Internet, where sites
like Penn World tables and the ONS website (www.statistics.gov.uk ISTR)
are strangely longwinded if you're just looking for bog-standard data.
If you can find library copies of the Economic Review, published by
Philip Allen, the Data Supplement is excellent for quick reference
material.
Second: when you've got your data, plug it into a spreadsheet and (in
Excel for example) use the Chart functions to create a regression line,
which can be suitably decorated with correlation coefficients and
regression equations.
