Dunno. It's not on my alphabetical list of place names, and some of these
are no bigger than farms. Are you sure of the spelling?

Me too, Ally. It's not in any of my gazetteers but on
www.accommodationbritain.co.uk there is a George & Dragon listed at
Carrigill Cumbria CA9 3DS.
That's the only lead I can get on the place, so it must exist.
My own interest is in a Joseph Walton animal & bird preserver who worked mid
19th cent. A case of Waxwings is comming up for auction this month by JW and
dated 1866. I reserach these old taxidermists and he is one I haven't met
before.

You have a post code, use the net! Feed it to streetmap or multimap
and you'll find that that website has a typo... You are looking for
Garrigill near Alston.

If you start looking for Waltons around here you will find 'undreds of
'em both alive an' dead. It's one of the orginal area surnames and as
people didn't travel much is still very prevalent in the area. Around
15 in the phone book or over 1% of households...

Alston Historical Society have lots of records and may be able to
help. Can't quickly find a contact number, they regulary open up their
archives for the public one may be or perhaps has about to happen.

Hello Rex. I'm glad you asked.
1) One floor is done now and needs a covering-already ordered-before I can
get my garden furniture out of the flat-heavenly thought-with all my
flowers.They're dying for sunshine.
2) Orlando has sawed the coating for the inside of the outside wall and is
too nail them on when he comes home from work tonight (bless him) on the
large veranda.
3) I'm waiting for the car to bring 3 liters of wood oil so I can oil the
older dry woodwork + 4 tubes of silicone to fill all the nooks and crannies
when it's all done and dry. I'd say another week and one veranda could be
complete.

Gasp. What a load off my mind. I hate jobs that aren't done in a
jiffy.Especially the ones that take 5 years.

Sounds promising. You'll be downing sundowners on the balcony before you
know where you are.

Orlando has the new wood done and he's soaking in the bath tub now. It's
been a 12 hour shift for him today - and the night is still young ;

Edith Energyless-keeps going to the window to peep at the new woodwork-loves
woodwork.

Me too. Wood has a tactile sense about it and a smell and a colour that's
marvellous. When I built my first harp I used Black Walnut grown locally in
Rutland. Once you polish it, it glows. Glad you are a woodophile as well.
Erica's tast in wood is more exotic than mine, she loves polished Rosewood
furniture. I prefer our native British timbers.

Morning Rex. Your polished Black wallnut sounds beautiful, and Erica's
Rosewood. Dwarf Birch grows high in the mountains and is a beautiful wood
too. I like lots of knots and polished texture.
Norwegians are woody people. Even the sailors bring home camphor chests as
souvenirs. I never throw a bit o wood out - to the extreme.I'm always going
to make something with the left overs and I never get around to it. My bits
will probably end up in my son's wood stove.

Pull yerself tugither, Edith - soon can't get into her outhouse. (room in
the outer hall)

Re: Carrigill
I have an overwhelming need to share this with you all. Its about what
I hate most about newsgroups . . . . control freaks like netnannies
and net cops and here is why.

They are like when a little bit of shite gets stuck just inside yer
rectum not far enough down that you can squeeze it either in or out.
It just lies there, you feel it but can do nought about it. It just
sits there and irritates the hell out of you. The only effect is the
production of irritation nothing else. That is really what they are
like. They achieve nothing else. The trolls are still there!!

Shite in yer rectum will eventually be resolved. Netnannies and
netcops are always there. The name and individual may change but there
is always some shit baiting and upsetting harmless trolls. The effect
is to give the troll a mission in life. Look at the uk.local hierarchy
at the moment, yorkshire, birmingham and essx in particular. Ruined
for the average poster. The majority of groups are empty, except for
troll droppings, spam and the odd genuine post!!!

What amazes me is that some of the netnannies not only boast about
reporting contributors to their ISP but attempt to get other people
to do the same. This gives the troll an extra boast of "adrenaline".
Its all beyond me!

Maybe I am too sensitive a guy.

Thanks for your interest.
