New DVLA log book?
Saw a glimpse of a worrying TV advertisement from DVLA that my car would
be illegal if I didn't get a new log book by 1'st July 2005. This is the
first and only notification I've had about this requirement.
I find it astonishing that DVLA rely on this method of communication for
such an important issue. What happens if you don't have a TV? If you have
a TV but don't see that particular advertisement? If you generally don't
pay attention to TV advertisements?

I saw that and I have no recollection what-so-ever of being told about it.
Its a typical Labour Government poly - making everybody else guilty of doing
something / non doing something, when you know nothing about.

It's sent out automatically about a week or two after you tax or SORN your
car - and has been for about 13/14 months - so everybody should have one by
now, except for cars that haven't been taxed for about five years since
SORN came in.

Presumably, it's only sent out if if you pay road tax by post to DVLA?

No. I pay mine at the post office and I've had a new V5C form.

No. I've had V5Cs for all of my fleet within a week or two of SORNing or
Taxing them at the local PO.

I suspect it's a post office cockup rather than a DVLA one.
When it comes to incompetence, though, that one's a real "Battle of the
Giants". Add Barclays, and you're into real World Class stuff...

I haven't had one for my estate
I wonder if I would be able to get one, seeing as it's been off the road for
the past 18 months or so ????

Nah, not really.
They're all very different - vans, saloons, jeeps, 2-pot, 4-pot, 4x4.
Some even work.

The new Citroen C6 sounds/looks good on paper. I'd worry with all those
electronics though.

Indeed. Can't wait to see it in the flesh. CitUK are, erm, "realistic"
about likely sales...

Why? It'll be the same multiplexing as on the rest of the PSA range -
slightly different software for slightly different functionality, but it's
pretty much reliable (now...)

"Pretty much reliable" really ain't good enough, is it? The curse of
modern cars is the electrics, whether traditional or mux.
As Flanders and Swann said forty years ago "These new car tests car ten
years, then six and now five, perhaps even three. Soon they might start
testing them before they leave the factory".

You may think that, I may think that, the car makers would beg to differ.

Not a unique PSA thing, at all.

Quite. Shame really - cars are getting too bloody clever for their own good.
