I've an '84 Classic Range Rover featuring a lower tailgate with external
lever.
Would the fittings etc of a later model with internal lever be suitable for
a straight swap, as mine is now rusting?

Any advice much appreciated.

Alt fan Landrover is probably the best place for that question I'll bet
mother or one of the lads will have done the conversion you could like as
not source a replacement original from there
