Plymouth Barbican Pubs???
Thanks to all who responded to my London posts. I will be visiting
Plymouth for a day during my trip to England. There are 3 GBG pubs
listed in that section of Plymouth (Cider Press, Commercial Inn and
Dolphin). Are there any other pubs of interest in the Barbican section
of Plymouth worth visting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

They are all fairly good and pretty historic. I'd watch what time you visit
though the area gets crowded with younger (and a bit rowdier) drinkers at
night over the weekends. On southside street there is a wetherspoons pub -
The Gog and Magog, which is fairly cheap and usually has a couple of good
(often localish) ales on. It has a couple of nice outside tables for warm
days but again I'd try to avoid it during weekend evenings.
Another good option is to table the water taxi from nearby the famous
mayflower steps to mount batten. A short walk away are the New Inn and the
fantastic Boringdon Arms (possibly the best pub in town!). The Bori in
particular always has great beers on and many are from the local region - it
has a good website www.bori.co.uk
Enjoy your trip!

I'll second the Boringdon, I've lost far too many hours trapped in the
place ;)

If the weathers good try sitting outside at the China House, Sutton
Harbour (the big pub sitting on stilts over the water) and enjoy the
view. The beers been pretty average there unfortunately.

We usually head over to the Thistle Park Tavern,32 Commercial St,Coxside
(less than 10 minutes walk from the Dolphin).

Have a look here - a pretty comprehensive list:

I have fond memories of the Yard Arm and the China House - neither in the
Barbican though.

Yep - Sutton brewery tap, late hours, sometimes (good) live music.
Always good beer.

The 10 minute walk from the Barbican depends on the footbridge being
open, though (it wasn't, the last time we tried it).

My spies tell me the Bori isn't as good as it was since the management
changed. Comments?
