Worcester (Bosch) Greenstar HE Combi Boiler
Newbie here (well - to this group anyway)
Does anyone know if the Worcester (Bosch) Greenstar HE Combi Boiler was made
obsolete by a new regulation which came into force on April 1st?
The Council have installed these on my estate and there is a rumour going
around that this is the case and because of the regulation Camden managed to
get them on the cheap. This would not be unusual for Camden, believe me! Our
last lot of lifts were obsolete when they went in and have given us 30 years
of hell!
The boilers seem OK, except that they take ages to fill the bath up - but if
we should have got better ones, we should have had better ones.
The contractor Camden are using is Makers. Very imaginative name. Does
anyone know anything about them? The general consensus here is that they're
a bunch poorly-skilled cowboys run by con-men!

Re: Worcester (Bosch) Greenstar HE Combi Boiler
The only regulation that I know of is that all boilers will have to be
condensing but I don't think this has come into effect yet. Anyway the
greenstar boilers are still on their website. It only takes 1 person to
start these rumours.
Also Worcester boilers are one of the best available and should prove to be
pretty reliable.
Not being funny, but I had to buy mine at a cost of over 800 quid. If I had
one of these installed FOC I'd be quite happy.

Re: Worcester (Bosch) Greenstar HE Combi Boiler
I know they're expensive and apart from taking ages to fill the bath,
they're very good and much cheaper to run - and very well engineered. I've
got the technical manual. In fact it seems to be the only half-decent thing
they've given us!
The kitchen units are quite expensive - 75 for a narrow base unit for
example and they look very good, but they have an awful smell and many of
them are damaged - again suggesting a job-lot of rejects, and there have
been a whole raft of lies and broken promises - and the site manager is the
sort of con-man, liar and bullshitter that would make Private Walker in
Dad's Army look like a babe in arms.
Mine was one of the 'pilot' flats where they went in blind to work out the
best way to do things. I hoped that by volunteering it in this way they'd be
out of here quickly.
They started on January 10th and told me four weeks, and now, six months
later, I'm still waiting for two major snags to be fixed, they're still
trying to decide where the extractor fans will go and trying to find a way
of sticking the floor covering down so that it stays put this time. They've
already had to rip one lot up because it started to lift and bubble. They
say it was due to damp.
Add to that, the Council's, the architect's and Makers' "Me big
professional - you thick tenant" attitude, and you can see why we're
stressed out, fed up and suspicious enough to believe any old rumour. I
could write a book!
And FOC? No offence taken. It all comes out of our rents and local and
national taxes so it's not really free and the rents will increase by an
extra amount next year because of the improvements.
And being a Council tenant is no bed of roses, believe me. I could write
another book! If I won the Lottery I'd be out of here so fast the Pickfords
van would make a sonic boom! :o)
Anyway - thanks. You've put my mind at rest somewhat, on the boilers at
least.

Re: Worcester (Bosch) Greenstar HE Combi Boiler
Boilers fitted after april 1st should be condensing boilers. However, any
orders for non-condensing boilers made before april 1 means that they can be
fitted.

Re: Worcester (Bosch) Greenstar HE Combi Boiler
I ordered the HE in April. I was told that they couldn't get hold of that
model any more, so they suggested I get the 25Si which I did.
