Tesco
If you spend over a certain amount at Tesco, they'll give you a money-off
coupon printed at the till, for some item or other. I got one the other
night at the Workington branch. "I wonder what I can save money on?" thought
I, shivering with anticipation as I put my reading glasses on. "Oh. That's
nice. So many pence off per gallon of petrol or diesel. Lovely."

Shame the Workington Tesco doesn't have a petrol station. I'd have had to
drive to Whitehaven to use the thing.

Grrr..

Their Store General Manager needs to be told. Ask to speak to him and
point out that if you have to drive to the Whitehaven Branch, you will
do your weekly grocery shopping while there and it will put his takings
down, and most branches within large chains are fairly competitive. He
maybe doesn't realise that he's sending trade away!

Well, when Tesco eventually take over the Cloffocks, or the Laundry-
Field, or whichever other bit of public recreational land they intend
to use for their megastore, they might include a filling station.

What are the relative distances? Just go to Whitehaven on your next
shop, always assuming that your fuel tank will be almost empty when
you get there... 5p/l is worth having but not if you make a special
journey or any extra distance is more than 10 to 15 miles.

5p/l on 60l is only £3.00...

If you are talking about the end of Victoria Road and down onto shore, you
can just drill a hole in the ground and fill your gas cylinders then put a
tiger on the tank. Just don't strike a match.

Diesel will disappear from the market sooner or later, don't you think?

It takes me another 20 - 25 minutes to get to Whitehaven. I only go there if
I have to visit someone in hospital, or possibly for the Martime Festival
(well, Belfagan will be performing there, so I guess I'll have to). It's not
worth the extra milage or time just for a wee bit of shoppping, most of
which I could get at my local Co-Op in Maryport anyway. Tesco irritates the
hell out of me for many many reasons - don't get me started! - but it's big
advantage is it's open all night (at least on week nights).

Yes, you're right. No good moaning here about it. If I can't be bothered
going there while the manager's about then I can't very well go around
complaining. (I do tend to shop at midnight....)

Along with all the other fossil fuels, I suppose. We'd better make the most
of being able to drive while we can....

Definately not worth it for the couple of quid off a tankful.

Definately worth harrasing the manager though.

I thought that was one of your famous typos, Edith.

I tried Pan some years ago but prefer KNode. I had no problems with either
of them. Maybe I should try Pan again as it's bound to have improved since
then.
