Sir Geoffrey Ellerton, Kt, CMG, MBE (1920-2005)   
Sir Geoffrey Ellerton, Kt, CMG, MBE, Chairman, Local Government
Boundary Commission for England, 1983-92, died at Cheltenham, 31 May,
2005. He was aged 85.

Geoffrey James Ellerton was born 25 April, 1920, the son of Sir Cecil
Ellerton, and was educated at Highgate School, and at Hertford College,
Oxford (MA).

Career: Military Service 1940-45; apptd to the Colonial Administrative
Service as District Officer, Kenya, 1945; Acted as Minister for
Internal Security and Defence, 1960 and 1962; retired as Permanent
Secretary, Prime Minister's Office and Secretary to the Cabinet at the
time of Kenya's independence, 1963; Secretary to the Maud and Mallaby
Committees on Management and Staffing in Local Government, 1964; joined
Elder Dempster Lines 1965, Chairman 1972-74; an executive Director,
Ocean TRansport & Trading Ltd, 1972-80; Director, Overseas Containers
Ltd 1975-80; Chairman, Globe Management Ltd, 1981-83 Director, Globe
Investment Trust PLC 1983-86; Member of the Council of Liverpool
University, 1974-78; a Vice-President, Liverpool School of Tropical
Medicine, 1978-87; Vice-President, Royal Overseas League from 2000, &c.


He was appointed MBE in 1956; CMG in 1963, and knighted in 1992.

Sir Geoffrey married in 1946, Peggy Eleanor, daughter of F.G. Watson,
by whom he had three sons, Nigel, Nicholas and Christopher.

No it isn't, Mike.

KT (with an upper-case T) is Knight of the Thistle.

Kt is Knight (or Knight Bachelor), but they are not entitled to use the 
post-nominal, which might have been the point you were making?
