Some here may remember that I manage to persuade the landowners to dig a 
pond at the back of my house last spring. It was regularly used last winter 
and we shot it three or four times with modest success. Pics at

I have been feeding it all winter but notice the pile of barley cleaning 
was looking a bit bare the other day. So I put a couple of buckets of 
barley in the shallows and another heap of cleanings.  

Three days later, the barley had all gone and the heap of cleanings looks a 
lot thinner. I counted 28 ducks off the pond in mid-afternoon, plus a 
couple of herring gulls! Goodness knows how many are coming in at night to 
demolish over two buckets of barley in a few days!

Two more buckets of barley put into the shallows today... Can't wait for 
september! One day last year I counted over 50 duck off the pond in the 
afternoon!
