Paulaner at Majestic
Just spotted Paulaner Original Münchener 20 x 500ml Bottle at
Majestic.
http://www.majestic.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=272&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=21113
However, the small print says:
"Only available when you purchase 12 or more bottles of wines and
spirits".
Damn!

never bought wine from them.

IME Majestic usually have two or three half-decent beers at good
prices, as well as a lot of boring stuff. The good ones are not always
the same. At the moment the best offer IMO is 12 Youngs Special London
Ale for 15. It's usually around 1.80 or more per bottle in
supermarkets round here.

My mistake. The 12 bottles clause is for home delivery.
Nope. The 12 bottles clause is for everybody. They only sell by the case.
However the Youngs Special London Ale is an excellent buy.

I don't know what the official position is (and it may have changed) but
I have found they make a difference between beer & wine/spirits.
I have bought a case of beer there w/o any wine/spirits but they have
refused to sell me a couple of bottles of wine at the same time unless I
bought 12 bottles of wine.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong - I KNOW you will <g>
- but I think this is an effect of the Wholesale Licence - within each band
of Duty ie 12 bottles (or volume equivalent) you must buy the minimum
quantity and Beer and Wine are in different bands for Duty.
Don't know how this works for Spirits - perhaps you can add single
bottles of Spirit to the minimum purchase in another category ?

To clarify. You can buy a single case of beer and/or wine in-store, but if
you want home delivery, your order must include a case of wine. Annoys me
too (another wine hater)! However I have two branches within 5 miles so I
don't care all that much.
One thing to watch is whether they store cases of Duvel on their side :-(
And if they offer to take your case(s) of BCA to the car, make sure they
don't turn them upside down when they put them in the boot!
Not as bad as an Oddbins in Sussex once, where they had cases of BCA
actually stacked upside down in the shop! Not that Oddbins is worth a second
look these days for decent beer. Unless anybody knows better that is.

Majestic will deliver just beer "free of charge", subject to a £50
minimum order value

I'll believe you, but if so, it's hard to get that information from their
web site!
