Advice please
A friend at work had one of those telephone calls where 'you have definitely
won one of these major prizes if you ring this premium rate lines.....' etc.
She decided to ring the number and was told that she has won 7000 - has
anyone else ever heard of any winners before ? I have told her to wait and
see and not spend the money until it has actually arrives. What does anyone
else think?
Thanks in advance
Ann

Re: Advice please
I hope it's true, but tell her don't spend it until she can hold the cash!

If you haven't entered the competition how can you win it? is what I always say. After all the watchdog type warnings I'd think this is nothing more than another sacm where the £7k turns out to be useless vouchers or the like.

ICSTIS fined 16 companies a total of 1.3 million in March for
telling people they had big wins (average 5000) in these promotions -
the prizes came as vouchers that were practically worthless . 500 off
a 25,000 kitchen, 100 off a holiday when two people book a minimum
of 1,500 per head, that sort of thing all adding up to thousands of
pounds worth but only if you spend hundreds of thousands of pounds.

ICSTIS have never recorded an instance of a single genuine winner from
an unsolicited phone call offering a prize if you ring a premium
number, even though they have asked hundreds of companies to provide
evidence of winners.

Tell her not only not to spend anything, but not even to crack open a
celebration bottle of wine - she can't afford it now she's paid for
the phone call.

Re: Advice please
Thanks for all the advice - didn't think it would come to anything but hoped
to be proved wrong
Thanks again
