o/t Election 2005
I can't be the only one thinking this, but I have no idea who Im going to
vote for tommorrow.

I know I don't want the Tories getting in because Im pretty sure as a single
mum I'd be worse off under a Tory government.

My priority issues and personal to me are Tax Credits (what a fiasco), the
CSA (another bloody fiasco) and both of these things affect the people who
can afford it the least. Education, Health Service and Crime, punishment,
Anti-social behaviour.

Anyone else still contemplating where to put there cross tommorrow? I can't
not vote as I always think that seems bad as people died to get the vote,
well women did so its our duty to vote and we cant exactly moan when things
go wrong if we didn't vote. But ask me they are all out for themselves and
not one cares about the 'ordinary' person.

Rant over LOL

Chris

I think it has always been a case of voting for the "lesser of evils" !
This is a good way to decide which party comes closest to your ideals...
http://www.whoshouldyouvotefor.com/
Of course it does depend on the position in your constituency but if you really don't want a conservative member of parliament you had best not vote for them! :o)

I do know where to put my vote tomorrow and would vote under any circumstance as women went through so much to get this for us and indeed, going further back to get it for us all. :) Wish we didn't have to vote for a politician, though LOL

I shall be voting Tory. Who else is there? Labour ? Another 4 years of high
crime, MRSA in hospitals, pupils beating up teachers, thousands of illegal
immigrants. No street police due to bureaucracy - no thanks.!

Lib dems? They want to give prisoners the vote....nuff said....

Greens....other than saving the planet what else could they do?

BNP... a little extreme but I'm beginning to see where they're coming from,
but not enough members to form a government.

So, though Michael Howard doesn't do a lot for me, he isn't a liar like
Blair. I work and hate my taxes going to those that don't as they do under
this government.....

So I will make a point to vote Tory this time (hubby and son think the same
as me on this occasion)

So a Nazi at heart, but hell the Tories will have to do for the moment. As
for MRSA I think you will find it's the party you will be voting for who
contracted out the hospital cleaners.

I am also a single parent, but i will be voting conservative. My two main
reasons are the Iraq war, and the fact they have messed up my childrens
education so much. I have recently been weighing up the cost of getting 2/3
jobs working 20 hours a day to try to get them into a private day school but
its not really realistic. I so wish it was. My children say they would
rather me home more not less! Where we used to live labour closed too many
secondary schools and there were not enough places for all the children to
go to school in the town ( a large town) for two previous years they had
shipped children out of town to other towns, away from their friends, this
then happpened to us. The council tried to get the schools to take the
children (6) of them but they refused, they could because they were grant
maintained. The other school in the next town was fed up with getting
children from our town by this time and refused them too. Their point was
the children didn't settle well as they didn't know anyone. Their other
point was the children with special educational needs were always sent,
they had a point of course. A week before the start of school term in
september we still didn't have a secondary place for my son. This did
untold damage to his self esteem and confidence, as far as he was concerned
no one wanted him. We only got a place after i contacted the local paper,
but it was still in the next town and not really good for my son. The story
gets worse but i won't go into that, but i still have nightmares over it and
feel physically sick whenever any one mentions labour. I did write to tony
blair and david blunket at the time, i got a reply from blairs office saying
it was being forwarded to blunket, who ignored both the letters. I would
rather spit on them than vote for them.

Looking at the long term, when conservatives took over before the country
was in a real mess, they were pilliored for not making things perfect, but
they did not have long enough to make good the bad job done before, you also
have to look at the whole picture, most of the world was in recession at the
time, so this made things doubly worse for them.

I think a lot of people have forgotten all the strikes and stuff that caused
the 3 day working weeks, and power cuts, i can remember sitting in the dark
night after night when the power was cut off. I could go on but won't,
really you have to weigh up the options and decide for yourself.

And, since 1997, how many hospitals has Labour ordered to return to using their own cleaners? Making these sort of criticisms is pointless as it can be argued that it's not those who make the initial mistake (though they do deserve criticism) who should be blamed it's those who do nothing to correct the mistake once it has been identified. Having done nothing about contract cleaners in over 8 years it seems reasonable to say that MRSA is (currently) Labour's fault.

And I feel so strongly about the lack of democracy in our area (particularly
regarding education) that I am standing as a candidate in our County council
elections tomorrow.
I have never had particularly strong political views but over the last 18
months I have been involved in a campaign to try to stop them closing 50 of
the schools in Northumberland, and have been appalled at the way the
(labour) council treat the electorate.

So, for me tomorrow is a big day, not only am I hoping to get elected, but
if the ruling group lose 5 of their seats then they no longer have the
majority and we have a chance to 'save our schools.' I do think, however
that it's very sad that it has to get this far, still I guess that's
politics for you!

Re: o/t Election 2005
We've already voted using postal voting.
It was a choice of lesser of two evils.
Good luck Fiona, hope you
get elected.

Better to spoil your paper than to not vote at all - at least that
shows them you are not in the "can't be bothered" category. I think
this time more than ever, a lot of us feel that nobody is really
representing us - a spoiled paper is the best way to tell them that.

Re: o/t Election 2005
We all vote (or not) for who we want in. I wouldn't condemn anyone for
voting different than me, even if they vote labour, that's their choice. To
me, it appears a misguided choice but nevertheless a choice.
I can't see that anyone on here is going to take any notice of my opinion,
nor should they.
But voting Conservative doesn't make me a Nazi, any more than voting labour
makes you a Commie. Gone are the days of the Labour Party for the working
classes, and the class difference. On a recent visit to Sheffield, I found
it just as prosperous as here in the South. Nobody goes down pit for 14 hrs
a day anymore. There is little difference between the main 2 parties now, I
just feel if they've done nothing in 8 yrs, then I personally don't want
them another 4. A change is as good as a rest....

As for religion....I am a non-believer, as such I feel that all wars are
started by religious beliefs which is a greater threat than who I decide to
vote for.

Sorry, nothing to do with competitions, after tomorrow it will all be over,
and either way I don't suppose my life will change much, I'll just carry on
working to support the lazy dregs of society who can't get out of bed to do
a day's work!
Having pride is my own stupid fault, perhaps I should be like the rest -
vote Labour, have loads of kids so I get benefits paid to me...

I think he was referring to the BNP, actually.
(just explaining, I half replied to your post then abandoned it, as
I'm not going to get into it)

1 . Well MRSA in this part of mid Glamorgan was imported from Spain in
1995/96 when a lady was air lifted home with a broken leg.

 2. Its not always the wards that are the problem --its just some of the
staff are dirty .
Nurses that don't change there Blues all week and paramedics that don't
wash there hands after going to the loo (noisy plumbing )

my view after
working for the NHS for 23 yrs

What a sweeping statement to make!!!!!
I wouldnt vote conservative for a variety of reasons but none of them are
because of the resons you state above. If I vote Labour, and thats the way I
am leaning at the moment, its going to be anti-consevative vote rather than
a vote for someone.
I AM a single paren and damn proud of it. left a violent hisband but I dont
have loads of benefits paid to me, I work full-time and personally have
never been better off.
I have pride too and if I vote labour I will still have my pride.
I was nodding with you about personal choice and everything you said, and
completely ruined a very good post by making that biggotted comment at the
bottom!!!!!! Now that WAS personal!!!!
And I never called anyone a Nazi either :-(

Re: o/t Election 2005
Wasn't intended as personal to you, I don't know your circumstances. If I
were a single mother perhaps I would vote Labour. Sorry for any offence
caused, just that I don't like my taxes going to freeloaders and members of
society who don't pay in themselves. If you work then you must feel as I do
and you are responsible for yourself. Good on you! Vote for what's best for
YOU! I've just "lost" my tax credits since going from part-time to full-time
work (earning between us slightly higher than allowance), also lost my
daughters 10 weekly travel to college. So much for helping myself.
Cheers

This also gives the people who count the votes something to amuse them
as well.

You wouldn't believe the things some people write (or draw) on
their ballot papers sometimes!!!
