Bike Security?
Now that summer is nearly here and a few of us will be taking to the
roads and byways on our pushbikes for a welcome drink, I think it would
be an advantage for pubs to make the security of bikes on their premises
more readily available.

Agreed, there is often a post/railing available, but not always.

Maybe the Good Beer Guide should feature a symbol for pubs that offer
bike security?

The GBG states whether there's a car park, railway and underground
stations, but bikes don't matter as a form of transport?

If only ;-)
Then I might go back to buying a copy each year instead of alternating
with other more comprehensive guides.

Unfortunately you appear to be in the minority as feedback from purchasers
suggest less and not more symbols for the guide.

There was a motion at the recent national AGM on this.

Get a "pub bike" that you won't miss if it gets nicked - if anyone can be
bothered to steal it in the first place.

It is more a case of practicalities, you can't put in everyone's favourite
symbol.

Do you think the 'Oversized lined pint glasses' symbol is really
necessary, plus a few others?

Hey Brett, this is rather like being back in the debating hall at
Glasgow... :-)

Not according to the publishers I have been working for.
More information is being requested by readers.

What 'national AGM' is this then?

Which could it be, considering the current debate is about additional
symbols in one certain organisation's "Good Beer Guide" ?

Dunno ;-)

Some sort of national forum set up by the Millenium Party?

Quite correct, but feedback suggest they would rather see this in written
form in the description apparently. Symbols require constant turning back to
look them up on another page making them not as popular.

BTW I'm not particularly bothered about them but we have to remember that
quite a proportion of the purchasers of the GBG are not CAMRA members or
even cask ale drinkers and so are not always aware of the reasons for the
symbols especially so when there are loads of them......
