Frog Spawn
At last! Our frogs have decided the cold spell is over and we have spawn
in the pond. Last year it was on the 12th Feb this year it's the 12th March.
I have been keeping an eye on certain natural phenomena and thinking of the
evidence for global warming, it looks as if a trend might show, but only
over a long period.
Any frogs breeding up in Cumbria yet? Maybe the rare Cumbrian Fell Frog?
Or did Edith kill them all off along with eye of newt, bats' tongues and
other esoteric ingredients?

Rex.

So, all these tales about you eating live sacrifices are not true?

Now, where's

(That spell book isn't any good, judging by your spelling on this
newsgroup.) And your bottle opener?

Bear burgers? Bear and chips? Bear stew? Bears on toast? Bear Rabbit -
(should that read Brer Rabbit?) Do share your culinary expertise.

By the way, how are you?

I just got back from a day in the piney woods in a Mazda Miata with the rag
top down. I have a bright red face and arms from the 80+ sunshine.

It was snowing heavily outside my crib, this morning when I woke, really
early. The daffs have pushed up their shoots even on the north side of
my house, where I thought they would never come up, but they have for
the last couple of years. I hope I will be the first on our southerly
side of the street to have daffies in my front. It might not be
Ullswater, but this is some corner of a foreign field here in North
America that has been forever Northern England since 1970-something,
having been bought from a couple of Everton supporters who had it for 30
years and never took US citizenship.

Don't know that model, but when I was in my 20s I had a Mazda RX3 which was
an amazingly wonderful car. 2 litre Wankel rotary engine and twin
headlights. Perfect for a girl racer.... I loved it and drove it until it
more or less collapsed around me. Ever since then I've been searching for a
worthy replacement for it, but sadly they don't make things like that any
more.

It's a modern japanese two-seater convertable sports car. Think
tradition british MG meets modern japanese style and quality.

I remember the rotary wankel. Unfortunate name for it. You'd
like the Miata (except it's price). Perhaps it's called
something else in the UK?

I am selling a VW Corrado 16V 1.8 ltr for my son: 1,800 ukp and you drive
it away.

In good nick, goes like s**t off a stick, and gives 40-ish to the gallon.

Email me if interested. (Genuine offer).

I'm sure I'd love it. Sadly, though (a) I couldn't afford it and (b) I'm
sure there wouldn't be room in the back for bundles of rushes, several cane
chairs, a couple of saxophones and 2 border collies. I guess I'm stuck with
my Berlingo.

Hmm, sounds great, but see my reply to another post (i.e., there has to be
room for loads of stuff + 2 dogs in the back.) One day I shall be rich
enough for 2 cars: one sensible, van-like thing, and one for pure fun.

One day.

Save the pennies from your sax playing and buy an RX8 for $23500 - 32470, a
great looking car. I wanted an RX3 but two young daughters ensured the RX3
fund never got above zero. A fellow worker had one and gave us a ride from
the office up town Manhattan one night, my stomach was usually two blocks
behind, awesome ride.

It's all melting here. There's been 6 inches of ice at the end

I bought my RX3 from a chap who had been given a company car so he didn't
need the Mazda any more. He'd offered it to his wife, but she was scared to
drive it, it was so powerful! I loved it, and zoomed off down the street,
happy as larry.

Our ducks make sure there is no frog spawn in our ponds.

Difficult choice...
no ducks, no eggs (and they are laying like machine-guns right now)

ducks, no frogs.

Hey, brief de-lunks are not permitted, you know. Now we know you are out
there, you might as well come in and join us in the loony bin. And welcome,

When I was first going out with Mr P, his Dad had a TR7, which he
happily let him drive - it was yellow and I called it the bionic banana.

We had a '59 chev with the big fins - powder blue. And a white
'63 chev - the fins were smaller and more angular. Then our '68
chev had no fins at all.

By the way I see 5 posts from you on uklc so I don't know why

I've never had a Mazda, Edie. I haven't got a Chevrolet, but my car is
made by General Motors, who make Chevies and Vauxhall in the UK & Opel
in Europe. It's a Pontiac Grand Am, ('03, not '57). I am not boasting,
although I think it's a nice looking car and handles very well. I am
sadly disappointed with the number of parts I've had to replace in its
short life.

I heard last night on the news that the Pontiac GA ranked worst
in deaths per million cars manufactured in it's class at 150.
Three times higher than my car. The worst overall (any class)
was the Chevy Blazer.

I'm a Volvo fan in reality but can't afford a car. Even if I had one I
wouldn't be able to meet the price the Government ask to keep a car on the
road. It's pretty degrading having one's driving license and no wheels,

My posts weren't showing up on my screen, Johnny.

1959/Carlisle.
The 59 Chevy is a beauty, ain't it Johnny. The first time I saw one was at
Carlisle Art Collage. One of the teachers was interested in buying a car.
The pink Chevy was presented. It stood outside the old mansion shining like
a star.
We students on the first floor, gathered around the window, staring gob
smacked in disbelief down at these fantastic wheels
from some far off galaxy. It didn't stand for long. The teacher bought a
British sports car that would fit in the boot and not long after, came to
school with his leg in plaster - Paris :0)

At least you can still walk around in Norway without raising suspicion

Cars are money pits. I had a university professor who would show
us how much cheaper it was to take a taxi everywhere than drive
a car. When you add up car payments, fuel, maintenance costs and
insurance (and road tax if you have it), it really doesn't make
financial sense for most people to own a car other than selfish
convenience.

I have two.

The '59 Chevy was a classic. I think my dad said he paid $3000
for it. That was back when a Canadian dollar was worth more than
an American dollar. He probably only made about $4000 or $5000 a
year back then.

In 1964-66 era, our neighbours had a Dodge with an automatic
transmission which had push buttons on the dashboard to operate
it. We all thought that was really space-age technology.

Another sunny day here. Expecting a high of 2C. It's been sunny
all week and the snow's melting for sure. Last fall I booked a
company to replace our shingles on the roof 'first thing in the
spring'. They just called and said they'd be here on Friday. I
thought spring started on Monday. There's still snow on the roof
and ice on the ground where the ladders will have to go.

In our 57 Chevy we could lay back the front seat making a full size double
bed, play single records and tape cassettes almost as big as videos, light a
fag and press buttons to change channels on the radio. Were we blu88i posh,

I could sleep on the shelf under the rear window and my brother
slept on the back seat. One day my father hit the brakes and I
ended up on the floor under the front seats. Seat belts had not

I just took a friend and her 10 month old baby to the airport this
morning. The whole palaver started yesterday, when we had to fit the car
seat into my car. I still see children clambering round loose in the
back of cars.

I vividly remember at 5 years of age, bringing my new baby sister home
to Keswick from Carlisle Maternity. She was in my mother's arms in the
front passenger seat, and I was standing on the back seat leaning over
my mother's shoulder and looking at the baby as the Singer Gazelle
bumped along the way. And I threw up on them both.

My dad kept his driving licence until the day he died, but I never saw him
driving a car. He'd driven during the war, and kept his licence, but never
used it. We didn't have a family car when I was a kid, and the first one in
our family was when I bought my first one aged about 21. I asked my dad if
he'd like to drive it, but it had been so long since he'd been behind the
wheel that he'd lost the knack, and besides cars had changed a lot since his
day, and the roads were much busier. So he had no intention of driving, but
he kept his licence. And his AA membership too!

A bit of the deja vue here, I'm thinking.
Thanks for the website address. I am considering publishing an anthology of
my published short stories, when I can get permission from all the various
publications that first published them. I might - just might - include the
lyrics of the songs I wrote for you. If I do - and it's big IF - I will
include your website address; with your permission, of course.

I don't call two Baileys drinking, luv. Swilling down a bottle of whiskey a
day, besides beer for breakfast and wine with one's food, is drinking. Oh
............. gawd give me strength...I'm back with the band again and I
thought I had overcome those memories.

the life and times of a Viking punk rock groupie. Should make an
interesting Broadway musical.

ROOOOOOOOOFL. It sounds great but it could shock the public and shake the
world. If all those groupies wrote their memoirs that book could be a
sensation. Linda Lovelace would, for sure just disappear into the grey zone.

The worst episode for me was when we went to Telemark in an massive big old
va, to play for New Years Eve, 32 below and didn't have enough money for
petrol to turn the heater on. The blu88y old contraption ran on deisel, doh.
My blanket froze to the inside wall of the van. Gawd it wuz cold. The driver
was short sighted and couldn't afford specs. He drove at the pace of a
tortoise all uphill and 2 meter deep snow. It's a wonder we didn't all kick
the bucket. Definitely a - No Sex - tour. The best part of it, we were given
a hot glass of Glgg when we arrived, which was very inviting. The band
couldn't play until the instruments unthawed.
